PROTOTYPING - BOXING OF YOUR PRODUCT OR SERVICE

During the prototyping phase, we have explored through the use of various tools on what the idea looks like and how the idea may be experienced. It helps if we make what is being experienced very tangible to the users and the stakeholders. The very concept looks so very clear once done. One of the ways to be done is using the BOXING Principle??


The Boxing Principle

The basic idea behind the “boxing” is to create a physical box, which can be used for example in the marketing of the product

If you look at any gift box, there are 6 sides. In each side of the box there are details mentioned based on some guidelines

  • Side 1 - What is the product name, image, slogan and what it has to offer
  • Side 2 - Details of the product like features, application and contents
  • Side 3 - Who are the customers, their challenges and their needs
  • Side 4 - When is the product available and how can one get it
  • Side 5 - Where and under what circumstances is the product used
  • Side 6 - Why should the user use the product

?

The Advantage of Boxing the problems or ideas

There are many advantages to the boxing approach.?

  • The element of the challenges become become very tangible as the details are mentioned in the sides of the boxed
  • There is clarity on ideas and an understanding develops on the effectiveness of it
  • It becomes very easy to explore to others
  • It can be applied in many areas?


Key Questions in Boxing for each side

  • What of product - Name, image, slogan, promises about the product
  • Product Details - features, applications and content
  • Customers and their needs and challenges
  • Product availability
  • Where and under what circumstances used
  • Why the user should use the product


EXAMPLE

Each of the 6 sides of the box could be pasted with the information like mentioned below. As you play with the box, you will be able to gauge the tagibility of all the details about your product or service
