Protocol For Improved Patient Care

Protocol For Improved Patient Care In A Home Health Environment

By Peter Colla Physical Therapist

First and foremost a change in attitude of the Providers must be implemented to place the focus of any treatment on the “Whole Person” and not just the individual pediment or location of the injury.

A slight change in the evaluation whereby factors that may have attributed to the “Cause and not just Effect” must be considered if a real chance for reversing the injury or possibly aiding in the cure can be realized.

In the case of children, an identification “From Lack to Talent” emphasis must be realized and then put in place as an essential first step in healing.

An environment must be created in which “Only Positive” is brought into the plan of care and all reference of the negative is reduced or ignored. Especially when it comes to the parents, who provide for the majority of the sustenance of the child, it is imperative that the parent only demonstrate positives in word, presentation and giving.

An Ideal must be incorporated that everyone with any possible issue can “Get Better”, so the definition of what exactly constitutes getting better is addressed. Set these factors into the treatment plan and use any or all procedures of care to help facilitate these factors.

A mind-set of “God Would that Everyone Would Heal” must be presented into the overall treatment evaluation, plan and protocols for ongoing care, is essential to deliver people from the dogma of abandonment, or the sense that they may have somehow gotten what they deserve.

The next mind-set change is “Any Improvement is Improvement” attitude that must be displayed and spoken not only by providers but into the lives of the patients, parents and caregivers, to insure a recognition of the benefits of what they are really receiving.

It is imperative that a “Cross Education Between Fields” of global recognition of possible symptoms is crucial for the maximizing of potential healing when dealing with a patient in the home.

In every program a short but mandatory inclusion must be “Putting Every Patient on the Move”. This is essential for the individual to embrace the sense of getting somewhere. If they are laying their sit them up, if they can sit, stand them, if they can stand walk them, if they can walk have them dance.

Providers must embrace the ideal that; “Every Person Deserves to be Touched” and this is essential for bringing the Humanitarian perspective back into care. An understanding touch, a hug, a simple hand-on procedure does more then just facilitate care, it delivers emotion in the form of a healing conduit.

It is imperative that any and “All Progress Each and Every Day is Verbalized” not only by the provider but by the care givers, parents and if possible by the patient themselves. The words must be expressed and heard to create a historic event, and the ears used.

A “Mirror should be Brought In” and used as much as possible so the patient can witness with their own eyes the gains of each treatment, use the eyes we have been given.

Another component that should be implemented as soon as possible is the “Addition of Water.” Water composes the majority of the makeup of our body and the world around us in general. To facilitate the healing patients should be engulfed in water into the program any way possible; bathes, moist applications, exercises pools, or merely out of drinking glass, but the addition of the purest and clear addition of water immediately delivers a purifying effect into the treatment.

Since the majority of medical issues either originate outside the home or at least are facilitated by factors attributed out in the world, a “Social or Total Environment Consideration” must be placed into the treatment model either with direct provider education or from an outside Total Wellness Consultant, or Wellness Team, to insure reoccurrence of injury stimuli is not repeated.

Invitation to “Witnesses Outside” the direct sphere of treatment should be given as improvements are established. This facilitates the overall improvement and marks a commitment to insure the progress is translated into the world.

Finally, especially when it comes to children, who are on the rapid growth schedule, an ongoing “Education of Goodness” should be taught, teaching the benefits of giving as much good into every aspect into the life of the child as possible; into the eyes, ears, mouth and even skin. As much as possible means giving only good and light, and thus turn from dark and bad.

When put in place all of these factors will have as a result Increased Productivity of Treatments, significant Reduction of Re-Hospitalization, and Increased Client Satisfaction, which will then increase also Provider Self Gratification and Dramatic Improvement of Referral Relations from the community as a whole.
