Protests have erupted in at least 30 US cities over the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, at the hands of police officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The UN Secretary General and Hight Commissioner for Human Rights have made official statements on the matter.
NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio said this morning that following a long night of injuries to protesters and police, there was no plan to institute a citywide curfew for tonight. According to NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo, NY State Police have been sent to several cities. The National Guard are also on standby but have not been deployed.
Curfews have been ordered in several cities, including Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (curfews will begin tonight at 8:00 p.m. and extend to 6:00 a.m. Monday, 1 June). In Rochester, New York, a curfew will begin this evening at 9:00 p.m. and extend until 7:00 a.m. Monday, 1 June.
