Protest by Polish hauliers

Situation of the transport sector

In previous articles we have drawn attention to the difficult situation of transport companies. Changing regulations, rising charges and the political situation in the world are causing the crisis in the industry to deepen. As a result, representatives of the transport sector have issued an appeal to the Prime Minister to take appropriate steps.

Meeting with the government

On 10 June this year, a meeting took place between representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the TRANS Road Hauliers Association, as well as 50 presidents of large transport companies. The discussions mainly focused on the deepening crisis. Current problems and barriers to doing business were presented. Solutions were presented to offset losses. These include:

- the introduction of surcharges or write-offs on ZUS contributions,

- rigorous inspections of foreign companies (such as Polish companies undergo),

- reduction of contributions to drivers' salaries,

- a return to 'minimum wage plus allowances' for drivers,

- reimbursement of costs related to the replacement of tachographs in older lorries,

- introduction of a maximum payment period for transport companies of 30 days.

Renata Rychter, representing the government, emphasised that she was familiar with the problems of the transport industry. She announced that the Ministry would work on the above-mentioned demands. Unfortunately, no specifics regarding deadlines or proposals from the government were given.

Hauliers announce protest

The carriers fear that they will once again be left on their own. This time, they have announced that in the absence of any action from the government, they will stage a protest on the first Saturday of the summer holidays, i.e. 22.06. This would include key motorway junctions and major roads. Furthermore, they stressed that the strike could last throughout the holiday period.

Update 19.06. at 14:00

- In the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, the mayor of the municipality of Goleniów withdrew his consent to the protest. According to the law, this can be done no later than 96 hours before the planned strike. In this case, it was about 90. The hauliers reported the suspected offence to the public prosecutor's office,

- permission was also not given by the head of the Siedlce municipality, so the protest will be a spontaneous gathering. According to the president of the Nationwide Association of International Road Hauliers and Freight Forwarders: "the tractors will start from the petrol station in Siedlce and travel 35 km to Mi?dzyrzec Podlaski at the junction of the DK2 and DK19."

The OSMPDiS representative admitted that he had made a mistake in the dates in his application so he is making another request for permission to protest on 28.06,

- The Association of Road Hauliers "Trans" applied too late so the strikes were postponed to 28.06. - a planned blockade of the junction of the A1 and A4.
