During June 1st - 2nd our Research & Development team participated in the 6th World Conference on Targeting Phage Therapy 2023, which took place in Paris, France. Our colleague Agnieszka Maszewska presented the results of one of the recently conducted studies on the Efficiency of innovative bacteriophage products: BAFACOL?, BAFASAL? and BAFADOR? in improving animals health in poultry farming and aquaculture.

Introduction: Due to the need to limit the use of antibiotics in animal husbandry, high hopes are associated with the use of bacteriophages. The aim of these studies was to prove the efficacy of BAFACOL?, BAFASAL? and BAFADOR? in in vivo trails.

Materials & Methods:?

BAFACOL? study duration was 36 days and it included 432 healthy 1-day old broilers distributed into 3 groups:?

-> T1 – negative control (NC);?

-> T2 – positive control (PC), E. coli infection;?

-> T3 – infection, BAFACOL? in water, every other day.?

BAFASAL? study duration was 91 days and it included 252 healthy 22-weeks old breeders distributed into 3 groups:?

-> T1 – NC;?

-> T2 – PC, Salmonella infection;

-> T3 – infection, BAFASAL? in water, 3 weeks on/3 weeks off.?

BAFADOR? study duration was 35 days and it included 180 healthy, 92.3 ± 15.6g carps divided in 3 groups:?

-> T1 – NC;?

-> T2 – PC, infection with A. hydrophila and P. fluorescens,?

-> T3 – infection, fish fed with feed coated with BAFADOR? for 8 days before infection.

Results: BAFACOL? caused the improvement of zootechnical parameters and reduction (72%) of broilers mortality. Salmonella level in faeces was 65.6% lower in BAFASAL? group comparing to the PC. BAFADOR? reduced the carp mortality by 62.5% comparing to PC.


The conclusion: BAFACOL?, BAFASAL? and BAFADOR??proved a high potential for control infections in animal husbandry.
