Protege breaks through the cloud

Damian Butters , Chief Technology Officer at Integrated Control Technology discusses the background and the technology surrounding the reveal of Protege X.

The security landscape continues to evolve which presents new challenges for individuals and organizations. I want to give you some insight into cloud-based security – one of the key developments I’m currently seeing at ICT and throughout the industry.?

Breaking down tech barriers?

Cloud-based security is becoming an increasingly popular option for businesses looking to protect their data and assets. Of course, some customers who are bound by government regulations or certification standards will need to keep security on-premise, but Protege X, our new cloud-based offering breaks down the technology barriers for somebody who just wants external access to their security system.?

One of the benefits of a cloud solution is automatic updates, which will make it easy for customers to take advantage of planned features such as a man-in-the-middle service for 4G connection, and zero config connection to access devices inside a network.??

And as cloud security is a rapidly evolving field, we are able to create other platform scenarios along with future new iterations of controllers as well.?

Protecting the protectors?

We started with a guiding principle that the most important aspect of Protege X would be protecting all information that’s in the cloud. We understand this is vital so organizations can trust that their data – one of their most valuable assets – will stay secure.?

Despite the many benefits cloud-based security brings, it opens a whole new world of challenges for us, which is why we’re using a modern and trusted platform like Microsoft Azure. It gives us confidence that the cybersecurity and validation elements of the Protege X platform is being taken care of, and allows us to focus on the planned domain development.

At ICT, we have a long history of working with Microsoft technologies, and as Azure has become the standard and matches up well with the current B2B landscape, it was a very easy transition for us.?

Powerful insights and granular reporting?

For many businesses insights are a key focus, as they look to harness the power of their data to drive decision making and make positive changes. Along with Azure, we’ve chosen Power BI to bring this functionality to life in Protege X.?

The idea behind using Power BI was to expand the functionality that we have. Currently in Protege GX we have an array of reports and a fair amount of configurability. But there are always valid requests for something else, like to meet additional compliance needs.?

Developing Protege X, it was about being able to use a platform that in the future will provide a very easy transition into using row and column level security reporting to provide insights that we don't have today.??
