The Protector's Creed

I take the Executive Protection profession very seriously. With the focus on "show" before "go" lately, I was moved to write the Protector's Creed with what I felt described the protection profession as it stands, and as it moves forward from a professional protector's perspective. I wanted to show the skills some celebrate as special, are actually foundational for the profession, not special. Don't get me wrong. What we do in our profession is special. We are prepared to give our lives in the service of others. Few choose to do that. However, as our chosen profession, there is much more involved than looking cool for photos.

The Protector's Creed

"I am a professional protector. For most all my life I have been a protector of my country, family, loved ones, clients, and assets.

I am proud of my experience, place, and role as a protector at the highest levels. I take great pride in being a part of the warrior class. My job is to deter, detect, delay those who would bring my protectees harm, and defend and recover those in my care.

I protect my charges from harm, injury, harassment, and embarrassment.

I am a professional protector. I have no need to pretend I am an “assaulter” or an “operator”. I can transition to offensive operations as needed, but the primary task and function of my chosen profession is defensive. My ego does not prevent me from understanding that. I protect my charges from harm, injury, harassment, and embarrassment.

My superior fitness, equipment, skills, and tools support my job.

My superior fitness, equipment, skills, and tools support my job. I don't wear those skills as a badge of honor. They are the foundation of the craft. Clients expect capability and competence from me, and they get it. My job is to deter, detect, delay those who would bring my protectees harm, and defend and recover those in my care.

My proficiency can make me very dangerous, but I use my skills to protect.

I am a professional protector. I am always mentally and physically capable. I am required to be.?I don't have to talk up my skills or show in some way, shape or form that I have them. My knowledge of, and competence with the tools of my trade is deeply ingrained in me. They are requirements of the profession.

I am undeterred by challenges.

My proficiency can make me very dangerous, but I use my skills to protect. I am confident in my abilities, but understand they require constant maintenance and refinement. I constantly challenge myself physically and mentally. I have a relentless need to acquire new education and techniques as environments and threats change.

I am a professional protector. I will not fail.

I am professional protector. I am undeterred by challenges. I find legal moral and ethical ways to get the job done despite obstacles. I do my research and prepare for my tasks accordingly. My clients expect me to get them home safely. My family expects me to come home safely. I will not falter.

I am a professional protector. I will not fail."

This is fantastic! Being able to memorize this and say it to yourself when you are low morale, when you want to take shortcuts or do things halfcocked, will aid in reminding us that someone's life is dependent on us. Bravo dear sir, a true inspiration!
