The Protector (Part 3 of 3) The Protector – A Civilized Wolf
Brendan,
To me, The Protector is a civilized wolf. Being a protector is not a vulnerable characteristic, but being harmless is. Both are conditions of a person’s character. What you use those characteristics for is what matters. Seeing the world through the eyes of protector, predator or prey will dictate who walks home and who gets thrown in a body bag at the end of the day. In today’s society the vast majority are fortunate enough to not worry about the body bag, so they never worry about anything else. When the day comes, it’s almost as if they line up to be victims and claim there prize that is a body bag.?As we say, play stupid games and win stupid prizes.?Prepare to win the fight.?
The responsibility of the protector/civilized wolf is to see the world as predators see it, to peer into the darkness and let it stare back. To learn from it, to adopt it, and to control it. That control is what makes wise leaders. The control of violence, influence, and power. Violence isn’t always about the physical nature of the fight, but the societal and interpersonal battles as well. When violence on every level is understood, it can be controlled and exploited when the day calls for it.
The warrior scholar understands that to defeat true evil or the monsters in the darkness, you must become the protector/wolf that drags darkness to the light. To study, embrace, and become a monster; yet to keep that monster under control and letting it out of the cage only when it’s time to crush evil. Be the monster, but keep in mind that when monsters are out of control other civilized wolves/protectors will gather to destroy it.
Morals or blind obedience controls most victims, evil control cowards. Evil creates chaos wherever it goes, but civilized wolves/protectors create order out of chaos, power, and influence. They create responsibility and opportunity. They create balance and certainty. A civilized wolf/protector isn’t moral, because morality doesn’t protect us. We are responsible for ourselves, and no one else. We must all recognize that the highest form of victory over the darkness/evil is peace, and the only way we can achieve peace is through knowledge. The knowledge of self, society, history, medicine, philosophy, survival, and perhaps most importantly of violence.
The Protectors/civilized wolves become leaders, and leaders unite, not divide. They focus on that which others avoid, and learn about the darkness. And that is what makes people follow them, that drive to bring people together under a common cause. They are capable of great violence, but prefer great peace. They keep their swords sharp, their guns clean, and their bodies strong. They also keep their intellect sharp and while they hope they never have to use violence, they never hesitate when lives are on the line. Strive to be the most dangerous person you know. When you are, find others that are more dangerous and learn from them. Build your tribe. Lead your tribe. Provide for your tribe. Defeat the darkness and cast light into your world.
