The truth and reality about TMPRSS2 gene & ACE2 cell receptors
Every virus needs to find a way to get into your cells. If you get infected with a small amount of virus particles, it's possible you won't get sick because maybe they won't even enter your cells. ACE2 receptors are like doorways for Corona viruses, as they bind to and hijack the receptor to gain entry into your cells. If you have the ACE2 gene variant that increases your ACE2 receptors, you are potentially more vulnerable to COVID-19 infection. But, when the SARS -CoV2 contact with you, it’s not capable of attaching to the ACE2 receptors.
That’s where the TMPRSS2 gene comes in. TMPRSS2 changes the Corona virus from its original shape to one that can bind to ACE2, allowing it to infect your body. If you have a TMPRSS2 gene variant that increases its expression, you could be more susceptible to viral infection as it's helping SARS-CoV2 infiltrate your cells. A Personalized Genetics test tells you which variant you carry, and provides you with personalized diet and lifestyle suggestions that may help counteract negative effects of this gene!
IFNG - Interfering With Virus Replication
IFNG codes for interferon gamma protein, which is the body’s first line of defense to viruses that we’ve never encountered before, like COVID-19. Interferon gamma attacks the viruses directly and also activates other parts of the immune system to help break them down and stop the spread. Without interferon's, SARS-CoV-2 will rapidly spread out of control in your body. But too much, and inflammation might cause respiratory infection complications like ARDS and cytokine storms.
It’s crucial to balance your IFNG gene to optimize your immune response, and the best way to do that is to understand what variant you have so that you can implement changes to either increase or decrease IFNG depending on what you need. SARS-CoV2 itself can also lower interferon-gamma and prevent the immune system from reacting. Some people have variations in the MX1 gene that can activate this first-line defense, even with low interferon. If you don't have the protective variants, there are a few natural ways to increase MX1.
IL2 Gene - Boosting Memory Cells IL2 increases the production of memory T cells, which remember infections so that the immune system can mount a faster response when exposed to that same virus again. It also decreases respiratory infection complications by controlling the immune system so that excess inflammation and cytokine storms don’t occur, which are one of the main causes of death due to COVID-19.
