Protecting children’s rights offline and online
In this February edition of our eNews Bulletin, we are sharing with you several updates, such as our new overview of Bulgaria's Child Guarantee National Action Plan, our recommendations for a stronger Council of Europe and our Turkish member Hayat Sende’s concerns and call to action to support children in alternative care affected by the earthquake in Türkiye and Syria on 6 February 2023.
This month we met with Katia Berti, Barbara Margarethe Kurkowiak and Stefan Iszkowski from the European Commission to hand them our (In)visible Children Report. On 22 February, we also held a training session on child participation and child protection at the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children (ENOC) 2023 conference.
We also would like to update you on our work to protect children online. Child sexual abuse affects at least one in five children in Europe and one in every seven victims is under 6 years. This is why we created a taskforce to advocate for children’s rights in the digital environment. We aim to ensure that the rights children hold offline - their privacy, well-being and safety - are also ensured online.
DataCare: today we are holding a roundtable event “Measuring Progress in Deinstitutionalisation and Improving Data Availability, Quality and Comparability on Children in Alternative Care” in collaboration with UNICEF to showcase good practices across the EU.
