Some of us have had a challenging and scary start to the year, while things are going very well for others. We may have set aspirational and realistic goals to help us focus and create a sense of direction. However, life can be unpredictable, and this can sometimes be frightening.
?In Matthew 10:28, Jesus presents us with this thought: "Do not be afraid of those who can kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell." This invites us to reflect on whether we are only afraid of things that can harm our physical body or if we recognise the importance of protecting our souls.
?This verse is part of Jesus' instructions to His disciples, emphasising the difference between temporary harm to the body and the eternal significance of the soul. It encourages us to adopt an eternal perspective and recognise God's ultimate authority over body and soul. By redirecting our focus to God's care, we can foster courage in the face of challenges and promote a bold and fearless spirit anchored in faith. Ultimately, it reminds us to trust God, who holds our eternal destiny in His hands.
So, when fear, worry, hopelessness, or depression knock at the door of your life, let love, faith, and hope answer. Remember that in the hands of God, both body and soul find unwavering security, and fear fades away in the light of eternal reassurance.
