and maximize your Energy Efficiency

Good day to you and today is a perfect day to say Good B.Y.E. to at least one of your inefficiencies, and if you believe that you have none, then you might be reading the wrong blog.

If you are new to these writings or have been reading for a while now then I would firstly like to thank you and secondly congratulate you on embarking on a journey of self reflection and study in order to maximize your potential. This is not as common in people as one might hope and is a journey that requires much dedication and effort. However, it is important to remember that the key to success lies not just in hard work, but in smart work. In other words, you must learn to Budget Your Energy (B.Y.E.).

Just like a budget for your finances, budgeting your energy requires careful planning and management. You have a finite amount of energy each day, and it is up to you to allocate it wisely to achieve optimal performance. One thing I have noticed is, just like in January when we are so passionate about our new years resolutions, habit formation and execution also has a ‘honeymoon phase’ of excitement that is followed by a phase that needs stamina and self motivation to continue, before the habit becomes ‘autonomous’ and the secret here is that consistency over time truly is the key element here.

The first step in budgeting your energy is to prioritize your tasks. Determine which tasks are the most important and require the most energy. These should be your top priority and your ‘Big Rocks’. Make a list of these tasks and allocate your energy accordingly. For example, if you have a project that requires your full attention and focus, plan to work on it during your most productive hours of the day when you have the most energy.

It is also important to recognize when you are most productive. Some people are morning people while others are night owls. Identify when you have the most energy and plan your most important tasks during that time. This will allow you to work more efficiently and effectively. For me at this stage of my life, this time is as I am waking up or actually when I get to sipping my coffee. Usually it is when I try learning, reading and absorbing information. Then when I get to work, the first 4 hours of work time need to be the admin dump, where I put some amazing music in my ears and smash out an efficient flow state stint and whenever possible switch off all notifications possible with aeroplane mode.

Another key component of budgeting your energy is self-care. Taking care of your body and mind is essential for optimal performance. Make sure to prioritize activities that help you recharge and refuel, such as exercise, meditation, or spending time with loved ones. These activities may seem like a waste of time, but they are actually an investment in your energy and productivity. For me, an hour of guitar or on the loop pedal or a peaceful sunset and beverage on the beach can increase my energy levels as well as reduce my stress levels drastically.

It is also important to eliminate energy-draining activities. Identify tasks or activities that drain your energy and limit or eliminate them from your routine. This could be something as simple as checking your phone too often, watching too much TV and the conversations and company that you entertain daily or weekly. These activities may seem harmless, but they can have a significant impact on your energy levels.

Remember, budgeting your energy is not about being perfect. It is about being intentional with your time and energy to achieve optimal performance. Some days you may not be able to follow your plan perfectly, and that is okay. What is important is that you are mindful of how you are using your energy and making conscious decisions to prioritize your most important tasks. In this specific piece I speak about Re-Grouping after a Bad Habit Relapse and understanding that it is okay if you do notice the ‘relapse’ and then train your mind and soul how not to get back into that situation again. Like setting alarms, roped off areas and time limits for specific areas or exhibitions of an art gallery . You need to set up your mind, energy and soul as a heART Gallery in a way that your ‘art’ is on display, but there are limits to how others can enjoy or consume it in order to ensure its preservation for many years to come and many others to benefit from.

On a personal note, I do realize that I am a day late for Sunday Sessions but trust me I had a great and rejuvenating day which was necessary from a really busy weekend of work so today I give you Monday Motivation ; )

Last but least, maximizing your potential is a journey that requires careful planning and management of your energy. By prioritizing your tasks, identifying your most productive hours, practicing self-care, eliminating energy-draining activities, and being mindful of how you use your energy, you can achieve optimal performance and reach your full potential. Remember, budget your energy wisely, and you will be one step closer to achieving your goals.

Have a stellar day ahead.
