Does your love life ever stress you out? Sure it does. I mean, I'm assuming you're a perfect pleasure to be around, but your partner can be a pain in the butt, right? And regardless of who's to blame, keeping a relationship going on an even keel can be one of life toughest challenges. I say this as someone closing in on a 20th wedding anniversary, assuming we can keep this party going for another 6 months.

But what if we've got it backwards? What if it's the stress in our lives that's causing trouble in our romance? After all, you've got a lot going on -- you're dealing with a lot of pressure, rejection, and frustration just about every day, and it would be remarkable if you manage to avoid bringing that drama home with you. But you should try.

You've got to protect your "couple bubble", says Elizabeth Earnshaw, LMFT, CGT . In her book 'Til Stress Do Us Part: How to Heal the #1 Issue in Our Relationships , Elizabeth argues that one of the most profound gifts you can give your partner is the gift of keeping outside stressors at bay.

Elizabeth is a licensed marriage and family therapist and the founder of A Better Life Therapy. She posts on Instagram as lizlistens and writes The Balancing Act on Substack. In her book, Elizabeth suggests ways in which couples can identify things that are causing stress on the relationship and work together to "shed, prevent, or adapt" them.

Hear Elizabeth's ideas for removing relationship stress:

We also heard a lot of other big ideas on the podcast last week, like:

So have a listen to these ideas and then go home and do something nice for your partner. Keep that "couple bubble" thriving!
