Protect Events - highlights of the year

From Breakfast Briefings in the City of London to presenting on panels covering every aspect of whistleblowing law – we have been out and about all year providing comment, expertise and insight.?

Here’s a quick run-down of our event highlights for 2024:?

  • We were kindly hosted by Covington & Burling LLP at the start of the year, reaching literal new heights at their offices on the 50th floor at their offices on Bishopsgate with a Breakfast Briefing covering the ‘Root Causes for Whistleblowing in the Financial Services’. The panel, including the Financial Conduct Authority, discussed trends, issues and how to drive positive change that ensures the continued integrity of the financial sector.?
  • From dawn to dusk the team then ended the day at Grantham Institute - Climate Change and the Environment for an event alongside Legal Voices for the Future , discussing Protect’s Environmental Whistleblowing Toolkit. The panel included Josephine Moulds from the The Bureau of Investigative Journalism and Johannes Stefansson , the Fishrot Whistleblower, who joined via videolink to share his story and his experiences of blowing the whistle on corruption in Namibia.???
  • The Environment was also the theme at another Breakfast Briefing hosted by? Slaughter and May .?A third of UK office workers say they are willing to quit their jobs over weak climate action from their employers, and a strong whistleblowing culture is key in helping employers stay true to their environmental commitments. Our Legal Director, Sybille Raphael , was joined by Philippa O'Malley ,?Partner Slaughter and May,?and Moira Thompson Oliver ,?Senior Counsel Slaughter and May to talk about? how to adopt and embed robust whistleblowing arrangements as part of an effective environmental governance strategy.?
  • With 30 years’ experience under our belt we’re well recognised for our knowledge and insights in whistleblowing and employment law. Testament to this are the many events we are invited to attend – to discuss legislation, best practices and whistleblowing stories with other industry leaders. This year we were invited to speak at the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) , Hacking HR ’s conference on mental wellbeing in the workplace, the IFSEA conference and Transparency International Ireland 's Integrity At Work Week’s online conference, to name just a few.??

All in a year’s work!??

Coming up for 2025, we’re organising events covering best practice for whistleblowing in the charity and fintech sectors, and how best to prepare for the new failure to prevent fraud offence.??

Keep an eye on our events page for details, and do sign-up for our monthly newsletter to make sure you don’t miss out.?
