Protech News - July 2023

To mark our 15th year in business this year, we thought it would be fun to find out some fun facts about technology development through the years since 2008. Take a look. Some might surprise you. For example, do you know what Siri's very first words were? ??

We turned 15!!

We are pleased to share that our 15th birthday celebration event at Hatfield House was an absolute belter of an evening! ??

It was truly humbling to have an opportunity to reflect on just how far we've come as a company since we started out in 2008 and to be able to thank all who came and shared this moment of celebration with us. We really are very grateful to all of our customers, suppliers and staff, who have really made such an impact on our success.

It was great to be able to raise over £800 for the Hatfield Food Bank too.

Once again, another huge thank you to Vestel UK for their generous sponsorship of the event and their support.

Speeding up the network with a new fibre backbone solution

Transforming the Network

We began?the busy summer holiday period with a wonderful installation,?massively improving the speed of the network at one of our schools?with?a new fibre optic backbone.?

Fibre optic cables offer much higher data transmission speeds, ranging from 10 Gbps up to 100 Gbps or more, depending on the type of cable and the technology used. Additionally, fibre optic cables can?transmit data over much longer distances, ranging from hundreds of metres to several kilometres.

We have linked all remote cabinets back to the main server room with new OM4 cable.?

This is replacing the existing copper (Cat5e or Cat6) or old OM1 fibre, which has less capacity and is slower and cannot support 10gb.
