Prosperity is a State of Consciousness

In a world that so often emphasises external factors like job titles, financial status, and material possessions, the concept of prosperity as a state of consciousness can be a novel and unsettling perspective for many people.
Rather than solely focusing on the job or business itself, this paradigm shift encourages individuals to look within and explore the energy they bring to their endeavours. The Law of Prosperity, also known as the Law of Giving and Receiving, plays a crucial role in this ideology.
Let's take a look at a number of writers who have explored Prosperity as a State of Consciousness, including one of my favourites: Florence Scovel Shinn, whom I encountered early on in my spiritual journal in 2016/17.
The Wisdom of Robert Russell
Robert Russell, a renowned spiritual teacher, emphasises the importance of tapping into our inner abundance to create prosperity in our lives. He teaches us that true prosperity is not about material gains alone; it is a reflection of our consciousness. Russell encourages individuals to look to God for his/her supply and then he/she will not fail to be prosperous.
In a secular world, where modern science bases understanding and truth on the observable and measurable, we have strayed from trusting the intangible, the magic of unlimited source energy and anything that smacks of new age spirituality. As such, many people have lost the ability to cultivate a faithful mindset of abundance and generosity. Prosperity (including money) only flows when it is allowed to flow freely. So there has to be a giving and receiving. Let's not forget, the Law of Prosperity is the Law of Giving and Receiving.
When we keep rigid control of our finances and when we're always preoccupied with the fear of losing money, we magnetise further lack. What we then experience in our physical world (what we perceive with our 5 senses) reinforces and fuels a mindset of lack and scarcity. It is a vicious loop and it's difficult for anyone to release themselves from its snare and grip. We are so conditioned to witness and trust the visible realm. We have lost the ability to conceptualise the enormity and significance of being part of something that is far greater than what we can perceive with our traditional 5 senses - that we are part of unlimited source energy. When we can get to internalise this in our beliefs and feelings, we start changing the energy dynamics of who we are: the "I Am" Consciousness.
But consciousness is not just a way of thinking; it's a way of being. So we have to exist and move through this world in such a way that we act on this inner knowing and truth, that our source is unlimited. That's the hard bit. That's what the internal action is - to make a 180 degree shift in our being nature. And the incredible irony is that it's our default or "maker" setting, but centuries of misguided beliefs and false notions of our powerlessness have masked the truth. The self-preservative ego has spun a spurious truth for us that we have to work hard, we have to show up and struggle, that there is never enough and that we are never enough. And so in this vein, we disqualify ourselves from prosperity.
"Prosperity is not just about the accumulation of wealth; it's about acknowledging the infinite potential within us and aligning our energy with the flow of abundance. Giving without expectation is the key to unlocking the doors of prosperity." - Robert Russell
Neville Goddard's Interpretation
Neville Goddard, a prominent metaphysical writer and lecturer, emphasised the power of imagination as the key to unlocking our prosperity.
The idea is that we visualise what we desire to be true as happening already and infuse that imaginary experience with a feeling so powerful and strong that it appears very real. We feel prosperous, uplifted, abundant and successful. It's a lived experience even before it's occurred in the 3D physical world. And we hold steadfast to the "knowing" and "feeling" that the wish is already fulfilled until it moves from the screen of our mind into our physical reality. This is the transmutation of energy according to our intentions and creative powers of imagination.
"Assume the feeling of your wish fulfilled and observe the route that your attention follows. You'll find yourself moving in a series of events in harmony with your assumption. Prosperity begins within, as the state of consciousness." - Neville Goddard.
Wallace D Wattles - A Certain Way
Wallace D Wattles, the author of "The Science of Getting Rich" (published in 1910 - one of the early books on the Law of Attraction), proposed that prosperity is attainable for all individuals through understanding and applying universal principles or Laws of the Universe. Wattles believed that success and prosperity come from a deep-rooted belief in one's ability to achieve, coupled with a mindset of gratitude and receptivity.
Some key aspects of Wattles' teachings include:
The Power of Thought: Wattles emphasised the creative power of thought. He believed that our thoughts are like seeds that have the potential to shape our reality. By focusing on positive and constructive thoughts, individuals can attract abundance into their lives.
Gratitude and Receptivity: Wattles stressed the importance of being grateful for what one already has while maintaining a strong desire for more. Gratitude opens the doors for receiving greater abundance.

Acting in a Certain Way: Wattles argued that it is not enough to think positively; one must also act in harmony with their goals and desires. By taking purposeful and constructive actions, individuals align themselves with success.
Overcoming Limiting Beliefs: He encouraged people to let go of limiting beliefs about money and success, as these beliefs can hinder progress. Instead, he promoted the idea of having a "creative consciousness" that welcomes prosperity.
His ideas about the power of thought, the law of attraction, and the importance of taking purposeful action have influenced countless individuals seeking personal growth and financial success. Today, his writings stand the test of time and continue to inspire people around the world to explore their potential, transform their mindsets, and create a life of abundance and prosperity.
"To think according to appearance is easy; to think truth regardless of appearances is laborious, and requires the expenditure of more power than any other work we are called upon to perform. Prosperity depends more on mental attitude than on external conditions." - Wallace D Wattles
My only criticism of this is that the emphasis is placed on thinking, rather than being. Manifesting prosperity is not just a mental construct as anyone who has ever tried rewiring his/her thinking through positive affirmations and journaling and any other self-reflective practices. You have to physically dislodge negativity in the cells and that's a whole other scale and dimension of energy shifting (which is what I can help with).
Florence Scovel Shinn - The Game of Life
Florence Scovel Shinn (1871-1940), a pioneering self-help author and spiritual teacher, who was held in high esteem by Louise Hay, emphasised the importance of using positive, uplifting affirmations to reprogram the subconscious mind and of replacing negative, limited thinking with empowered, abundant thinking.
She also believed in a Divine order, that the universe is inherently organised and operates according to specific laws. Trusting in this Divine order allows individuals to release feelings of fear, inadequacy and doubt, and align instead to the flow of love and abundance. In this energy, the Law of Attraction works to draw the right energies (people, circumstances and conditions) towards you to reaffirm that abundance and love.
What I particularly like about Florence Scovel Shinn is the emphasis that she places on words. She believed that words have creative power and that aligning them with the Law of Giving and Receiving attracts abundance. I've mentioned in many previous articles in this newsletter series how source / spirit energy speaks to me in the lyrics of songs. For others it may be through animal or nature symbols or through numbers. I think it's because I have a natural affinity for the written and spoken word. That's why I enjoy speaking to an audience (regardless of initial nerves) and why I enjoy the creative writing process.
"The game of life is the game of boomerangs. Our thoughts, deeds, and words return to us sooner or later, with astounding accuracy. Prosperity is attracted to those who radiate positivity and love." - Florence Scovel Shinn
I've been conducting an experiment this week on the creative use of words to manifest more money. So far, this has yielded:
Obviously, I'm going to continue this experiment in the week ahead. If you'd like to know more, just inbox me and I'll share a few tips and guidelines with you.
Conclusion
Just remember, however, that prosperity as a state of consciousness transcends mere financial gain and explores the realm of energy, belief, and openness to receive. By embracing the Law of Giving and Receiving, individuals tap into the abundance that exists within and around them.
As exemplified by the insights of Robert Russell, Neville Goddard, Wallace D Wattles, and Florence Scovel Shinn, true prosperity is a reflection of our thoughts, beliefs, feelings and actions. By cultivating a focus of abundance and a sense of being something greater than our physical world, we can unlock the doors to a prosperous and fulfilling life.
