Year-2020 is a turbulent time for everyone and is being declared worst for all. Covid has infected millions and the lockdown of months all across has crashed the World economy. It is a dismal year for most of the Companies, by managing necessities online or working from home. However, there are few companies who prospered in pandemic and we need to learn from them -
1) Amazon became the emergency port of goods during the lockdown period and thus added approx. 400 billion market cap.
2) Microsoft added approx. 270 billion market cap as 75 million people used Teams Communication app, Azure cloud platform become a critical digital backbone to many companies and record 90 million players used Xbox Live Gaming platform.
3) Apple manages to accelerate the sale through an online platform and even released a new iPhone & iMac for millions of consumers working from home to upgrade their devices. It has become the first 1.5 trillion companies despite the closing of 500 stores around the World.
4) Tencent, a China-based Online Gaming company, has exploited Home isolation by increasing its Video subscriber to 112 million, music streamer to 43 million and social media app WeChat to 1.2 billion.
5) Facebook also increased its engagement level of 2.6 billion Users due to Home isolation & lockdown and even launched new live stream features and entered in commerce play.
6) Nvidia, US-based graphic chip company riding a boom as playing games on its platforms jumped 50% and its chip is in demand as AI becomes an important component of digital activities.
7) PayPal, a pioneer of online payment has become more relevant in pandemic to handle contactless payments. Adding 7.4 million Users in April month shows the increase in confidence of Users for socially distanced transactions.
8) Netflix added twice as many subscribers as it had forecast, a 23% jump in Q1. It is the largest paid streaming service entertainment platform, got the biggest benefit from the current lockdown situation.
9) Shopify overtook eBay to become 2ndbiggest e-commerce company after Amazon by processing a merchandiser order of 61 billion USD globally as online shopping accelerated in pandemic time.
10) Zoom Video revenue soared 169% and usage became 3x in spite of some security lapse related controversies. It has become a household name and symbol of work from the home of the year-2020.
