Prosound Enhances Houghton Mosque’s Audio System with Symetrix Upgrade

For nearly 15 years, Prosound has maintained and serviced the audio system at Houghton Mosque, ensuring consistent and high-quality sound for daily use. Over time, some upgrades became necessary—not as a result of failure, but as a testament to the durability and reliability of our installations. This project highlights Prosound’s commitment to quality, as much of the existing system remains fully functional even after years of continuous operation.

The mosque’s extensive distributed audio system, which spans multiple zones, is built on a Symetrix Solus Control DSP backbone. While the Solus series has been discontinued, its robust design has allowed it to remain operational and relevant. Thanks to Symetrix’s dedication to long-term support, even discontinued products continue to be compatible with the latest Symetrix Composer software.

At Prosound, we always consider our clients' needs and budgets when recommending upgrades. In this case, the mosque’s Symetrix Solus 16x8 DSP unit is still in excellent condition, with several years of reliable service ahead. Instead of a full system replacement, we opted to enhance its functionality by integrating a Symetrix T5 Touchpanel into the existing setup.

Originally, the system relied on a basic button wall panel to switch between different effects modes for the mosque’s Imaams. While functional, this approach lacked visual feedback and customisation options. With the introduction of the T5 Touchpanel, the system now offers an intuitive interface that not only allows mode switching but also provides real-time visual feedback on active settings—something that was previously impossible.

Beyond basic switching, the new touchpanel has introduced dynamic preset recall functionality. Given that different Imaams speak or perform readings at various times, we programmed the T5 Touchpanel to offer one-touch presets for adjusting levels, gain structure, and other audio parameters based on specific needs. This allows seamless adjustments at the push of a button, ensuring optimal audio clarity for every situation.

Importantly, this upgrade bridges two generations of Symetrix products—the Solus DSP and the T5 Touchpanel—showcasing the brand’s forward-thinking approach to compatibility. By leveraging this integration, Prosound has provided Houghton Mosque with a cost-effective, future-proof solution that enhances functionality while preserving their existing investment.

With this upgrade, Houghton Mosque is now equipped with a more flexible, user-friendly, and future-ready audio system, ensuring clear and reliable sound for years to come.
