Prosound celebrates Nyameka Nonda
As we continue celebrating the women who have made Prosound what it is today, there is one extraordinary woman that truly deserves a large share of the spotlight.
Nyameka Nondabula left her career as an educator to join the Prosound team in April 2006. She started in the finance department but quickly showed her aptitude for leadership and organization and stepped into the role of project manager.
During the run-up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Nyameka was part of the team that ensured the 11 stadia that Prosound worked on were ready to host the greatest event on earth. Not only did she manage to power through one of the biggest events ever hosted on the African continent, but she did so while she was pregnant and a new mother to her second-born son.
“It was the busiest and most exciting time ever at Prosound. I remember giving birth and taking World Cup meetings just 20 days later. I still call him “Prosound” because young as he was, he just came along on the journey with me.”
After five years at the top of her game in the events industry, Nyameka realized that she needed to return to her life’s calling as a teacher.

“While I loved my work with Prosound, my first love will always be teaching, and really missed the children,” she explains.
Nyameka accepted a post at a primary school in Dlamini, Soweto, and has dedicated her life to uplifting the children in her care ever since.
“Our school is opposite an informal settlement in Soweto, and many of our children live in difficult circumstances. We have children from child-headed households, and many parents are ill-equipped or unavailable to provide the level of support children need to thrive. As educators, we often have to fulfill the role of parent and educator, which is hard. However, it’s worth seeing them blossom to their full potential despite the challenges they face.”
“Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mine worker can become the head of the mine; that a child of farm workers can become the president of a great nation.”
Nyameka’s passion, dedication, and compassion create opportunities for transformation in the lives of the children she educates. We are both humbled and immensely proud to have been a stop on Nyameka’s journey towards her higher calling. We will continue to support her and the children in her care whenever the opportunity arises.
