Proposed Council Tax Changes for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service

Proposed Council Tax Changes for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service

We want your feedback on a proposed increase in contributions for the 2025/26 financial year. This additional funding is essential to maintaining the high standards of service we deliver to our?communities,?while enabling us to invest in plans that address emerging needs and risks. These efforts align with our Community Risk Management Plan, designed to benefit everyone across the Humber region.

Proposed Council Tax Precept Increase

To continue delivering excellent service and preparing for the future, the Service is presenting four options for a Council Tax precept increase:

  • Option 1: A £2.93 (2.99%) increase, equivalent to 24p per month for a Band D property.
  • Option 2: A £4.99 (5.09%) increase, equivalent to 42p per month for a Band D property.
  • Option 3: No increase.
  • Option 4: Propose an alternative amount.

Impact on Different Council Tax Bands

The proposed increases will vary by Council Tax band. Many homes in the Humber region fall into lower Council Tax bands, meaning the proposed increases will be smaller for most residents.

For example:

  • Band A properties, the lowest band, would see an increase of just 16p per month (£1.96 per year) under Option 1 or 28p per month (£3.33 per year) under Option 2.
  • Band D properties, the mid-point band, would experience an increase of 24p per month (£2.93 per year) under Option 1 or 42p per month (£4.99 per year) under Option 2.
  • Band H properties, the highest band, would see an increase of 49p per month (£5.86 per year) under Option 1 or 83p per month (£9.98 per year) under Option 2.

How to Participate

A detailed breakdown for all council tax bands and how you can take part, can be found on our consultation webpage.

The deadline for feedback is 5 pm on Friday 24 January 2025. The feedback will be reviewed by the Humberside Fire Authority at its meeting on 14 February 2025.

It’s good to see engagement and consultation on the ever contentious topic of increasing costs for residents vs the need to invest in a service that saves lives.
