Prophetic Dialogue - a divine exchange

Prophetic Dialogue with God: A Journey into Divine Conversation

Prophetic dialogue with God is not merely an act of speaking to Him; it is a rich, dynamic conversation where the Creator speaks to His creation, offering guidance, encouragement, correction, and intimacy. This divine exchange is central to the believer’s life, an invitation to step into the flow of heaven’s wisdom and purposes. Keith Hazell, a seasoned prophetic voice, sadly no longer with us, often emphasized the simplicity yet profundity of hearing God. He insisted that the prophetic is not about theatrics but about a natural flow of communication with a supernatural God.

God desires relationship. This truth weaves through Scripture, revealing His longing to communicate with His people. In prophetic dialogue, this relationship becomes tangible, as it involves not just speaking but listening. It is not a one-sided monologue of requests and complaints; it is a sacred exchange. Hazell often compared it to sitting with a trusted friend. God is approachable, kind, and deeply invested in His creation. We can come to Him honestly, without pretence or polished words. In return, His voice is not an overwhelming thunder but often a whisper, a subtle prompting, or a profound thought that settles in the heart. The key lies in listening.

Hearing God requires a heart posture of humility and expectation. Hazell taught that the prophetic is birthed in intimacy. “If you want to hear God,” he often said, “you must know Him. To know Him, you must spend time with Him.” The prophetic flow not from techniques or formulas but from abiding in His presence like a child naturally recognising their parent’s voice amid a crowd.

The question often arises: “How do I know it’s God speaking?” Hazell frequently reminded his listeners that God’s voice is always consistent with His nature and His Word. It will never contradict Scripture, which remains the ultimate measure of His character and truth. Prophetic dialogue must always be rooted in God’s Word, for without this anchor, it risks veering into human imagination or presumption.

God speaks to each person uniquely. For some, it may be an audible voice, but for most, it is the still, small voice Elijah encountered in the wilderness. It may come as an impression, a vision, a dream, or even a deep, inexplicable peace. The Holy Spirit, who dwells within every believer, acts as the interpreter of these divine messages. Hazell often shared stories of hearing God in everyday moments, emphasizing that God is not confined to church walls. “He’ll speak to you in your car, your kitchen, or even at the grocery store,” he would say. “The prophetic is for the ordinary spaces of life as much as it is for the sanctuary.”

Prophetic dialogue is incomplete without a response. When God speaks, He invites action—whether in prayer, obedience or simply resting in the assurance of His words. Hazell often emphasized that prophetic words are not always immediate instructions but can be seeds for the future. “God is not in a rush,” he taught. “When He speaks, it’s not to overwhelm you but to prepare you, shape you, and reveal His heart.” Responding to God may require patience, as His timing often differs from ours. Yet every step of obedience builds trust and deepens the relationship.

Discernment is essential in prophetic dialogue. Not every thought or impression is from God. Hazell was clear about the need for accountability and testing prophetic words, encouraging believers to seek confirmation through Scripture, wise counsel, and the witness of the Holy Spirit. “God is not the author of confusion,” he reminded. “If it’s Him, it will bring clarity, even if it challenges you. His words bring life, not fear or condemnation.” Discernment safeguards the prophetic, ensuring that this sacred dialogue remains pure and life-giving.

In a world brimming with distractions and competing voices, prophetic dialogue with God is more vital than ever. It anchors us in truth, offers clarity in chaos, and strengthens our faith. Hazell often urged believers to pursue this dialogue not for personal gain but to serve as vessels of God’s blessing to others. “God is always speaking,” he said. “The question is, are we listening? And if we are, are we willing to share what we hear?”

The prophetic is not about elevating oneself but about pointing others to Jesus. It is a ministry of encouragement, edification, and comfort, carrying the heartbeat of God—a deep desire to draw people closer to Him. Prophetic dialogue is an adventure, an ongoing journey of hearing and responding to the One who knows us intimately and loves us unconditionally. Keith Hazell’s life demonstrated that this dialogue is not reserved for a select few but is a gift available to all believers.

God is not distant or silent. He is near, speaking words of life, hope, and destiny. All that is required is a willingness to tune our hearts to His frequency, ready to listen, trust, and obey. The reward is not just the words He speaks but the relationship we build with the One who speaks.

Are you speaking and listening, is it conversation through which you are changed?
