Proper Positioning is Powerful!

Proper Positioning is Powerful!

So today I want to talk about a very, very powerful concept. I call it a concept because it's

the appropriate way to run your business. It's related to sales, is related to marketing, and it's related to customer service.?

You can say that it's related to a lot of things that have to do with how you communicate with a client or prospect and their family members. In this post, I'll give you a couple of examples on how I deal with proper positioning.

Split Shifts: When should you use them?

Recently I’ve had a client ask me how to do deal with these things. Split shifts tend to be tricky decisions to make, because it can impact everyone’s schedules.?

I know in my business, it was something that I constantly had to correct, which is how they position things. So for the first example I gave her, it was that we don’t do split shifts unless absolutely necessary. Good positioning effectively eliminates the need to do this in my opinion.?

So while it's true that we administer medication and some companies, they don't do split shifts because it can mess up their priorities.?

But in the case where split shifts are necessary, It is your obligation to explain to the client why and try to position it as if it's in their best interest. In this case, you have to inform them when you do a split shift and if you have caregivers who might accept the shift. You will also have to call them ASAP if they later find a four hour shift or a six hour shift.

Failing to explain your shifts will put you in a bad position with your clients, and it will give them the impression that you are not willing to serve them. No one wants that, right??

Conversing with your Clients?

So now you’re having a conversation with your client. Like when you're positioning into a client, and you're having a conversation about split shifts.?

Here’s a hypothetical scenario. I’m talking to Mrs. Jones who wants her husband to get admitted, but she’s being a bit difficult with split shifts.

“Let me explain to you Mrs. Jones, why we don't do split ships or we're willing to do admit your husband but we have to bill and pay more. Put yourself in the shoes of the caregivers, right?

The caregivers need work. They're doing thist because they want to help people, but they're also doing it because they need to earn a living. They need to pay their bills. Most companies offer a four hour minimum.”?

Having worked in homecare for so long, it’s easy to understand that people want the same caregiver to serve them for their entire stay. In a perfect world, that would be possible. But we don’t live in a perfect world, right??

This explanation helps me show to Mrs. Jones that there are a lot of nuances when being a caregiver. It puts me into a better position to ease her into either abiding by our split shifts, or to pay the extra shift.?

Caregivers are human too

Of course, this is one detail that we as homecare agency owners ALWAYS need to remember. Caregivers are humans that want to help others while also making a living.?

One of the main reasons why I put a lot of emphasis on this is because Caregivers that are well taken care of are a lot more likely to stay with you. Being able to position properly allows you to give your Caregivers the shifts that they want. It lets them plan their schedules properly.?

This is one of the main reasons why Caregivers aren’t very big fans of split shifts. Having to go to work twice a day with no extra pay is a bad proposition for them. Commuting and gas are expensive today, and the lack of extra pay really hurts.?

As such, I’d really like to encourage you to be strategic with your positioning. Doing it properly can make just about everything in your business go smoothly.?

I hope that you can apply this to your own homecare agency and improve your results. Also, don’t forget to join the Homecare Breakthrough Solutions FB group where you can mingle with other agency owners. We give each other tips on how to grow and scale our businesses!?
