Prop 19, Part II: Inheriting a Tax Basis

Today we’re following up on a topic we touched on in our previous video: Proposition 19. This time, we’ll be taking a closer look at how this recently enacted law affects property tax basis inheritance. Prior to Prop 19, you were able to inherit a property at its existing tax basis—no reassessment necessary. As of 2021, however, you can no longer adopt its existing tax basis unless you intend to use that inherited property as your primary residence.
