This month we have been focusing on promoting women empowerment. Women empowerment is an individual and collective process that involves women and the system of micro and macro relations in which they live: the family, the community, the society as a whole. The Inclusive Development Unit offers consultancy services to companies wishing to foster this process by performing gender audits, a voluntary exercice to reduce the gender gap. The M&E and Impact Evaluation Unit is carrying out evaluation to better understand how projects impact on women empowerment in different parts of the world.

Spazio Donna, evaluation of the projects to foster women empowerment and contrast gender-based violence
The project Spazio Donna, by WeWorld, has created new spaces to meet and socialize dedicated to women who live in difficult contexts and victims of gender based violence. These "Spazi Donna" aim to foster women empowerment. The M&E and Impact Evaluation Unit was involved to estimate the impact of the project on the empowerment of the beneficiaries.
What is gender audit and why is it important?
A gender audit informs companies on how to reduce the gender gap. In general, gender audits promote women’s participation in the labour market and opportunities for economic growth. They are voluntary tools to assess compliance to gender equality policies and check the institutionalisation of gender equality into organisations. The Inclusive Development Unit offers consultancy services to perform gender audits.

Promoting the economic empowerment of women, an in-depth study
Women economic empowerment is key to promoting more equal societies where women live free of violence. The Inclusive Development and M&E and Impact Evaluation Units elaborated a framework to better understand the necessary conditions to promote women's economic empowerment, particularly in Italian internal and rural areas where low employment rates combine with a widespread patriarchal culture.
