Promoting the mobility of the future at the GMC in Madrid
Sustainability is not just a trend, it is a need that must be addressed in a cross-cutting manner so that it reaches all sectors that make up society, including sustainable mobility ????. ?
At Grupo ACS we have a track record which endorses us as leaders in the construction and operation of infrastructures. This is because we have always made an effort to anticipate the needs of society by providing innovative and efficient responses.
We are no strangers to the challenges facing our cities. The need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the growing demographic pressure and the lack of drivers for heavy transport, which may end up causing the collapse of logistics transport by road in 10 years, are some of the main challenges we must face. And at ACS Group we are aware of the obligation we have to society to be the change which allows us to combine the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the growing demographic pressure, placing people at the center and improving their quality of life. It is a great challenge which implies committing to innovative projects and new technologies, but we are prepared.?
This is precisely why we attended the Global Mobility Call in Madrid to discuss the new challenges and present Skyports Infrastructure / Skyports Drone Services and Glydways , key investments to diversify our sustainable mobility solutions.
Skyports: innovation in vertiports and drones to transform mobility
With its two branches of activity (Infrastructure and Drone Services) Skyports is focused on the design, construction and operation of vertiports, as well as drone services.
What makes Skyports Drone Services special is its specialization in what we call Beyond Visual Line of Sight piloting. In other words, the drones are not piloted from the ground, but from control points that can be located anywhere in the world, making it possible to access routes that could not be reached otherwise. For example, Skyports is currently the only company in the world capable of transporting cargo via drones to offshore oil platforms in the North Sea.
With Skyports, we are developing drone terminals?for?evtols, designed to facilitate the efficient transportation of goods and people. eVTOL systems offer a clean and sustainable alternative to passenger transportation in congested cities. Compared to helicopters, eVTOLs have multiple advantages: being electric, they generate less noise and air pollution, and are safer thanks to their multiple rotors, as opposed to the single rotor of helicopters. In addition, these vehicles have a range of up to 350 kilometers, enabling them to connect remote population centers with large cities.
On the other hand, Skyports' drones have applications that go beyond the conventional, from inspecting infrastructure to transporting medical equipment in hard-to-reach areas. The company operates drones of various sizes, capable of carrying loads ranging from 9 to 200 kilograms, which is key to supplying remote areas. A prime example is its service to oil platforms in the North Sea, where costly helicopter routes were previously required. Also, on an island in the north of Scotland, Skyports' drones have transformed logistics by enabling mail and parcels to be sent and received on a daily basis, where previously this service was only available once a week via ferry. They also offer a two-way service, a feature that sets them apart from many other drone companies.
Glydways: on-demand urban mobility for a sustainable future
Glydways is an innovative on-demand public transport solution using a vehicle called Glydcar, which operates autonomously in dedicated lanes. It is a system that combines the best of public transport (low cost for the user and improvement of congestion in cities) and private vehicles (greater speed and personalization).
Glydways specializes in low-impact transportation systems designed for urban areas, using electric and autonomous vehicles that operate on demand, improving mobility without adding congestion to traffic. One of Glydways' main advantages is its ability to operate 24/7, allowing users to plan their trips with complete flexibility. Its dedicated lanes ensure a smooth and safe flow of traffic, both for passengers and the urban environment.
Another highlight is its efficiency in the use of space, as its rails are no more than two meters wide, which facilitates its integration into existing infrastructure and significantly reduces initial costs compared to systems such as the metro or light rail. In addition, their on-demand model avoids empty trips, optimizing operational resources and reducing costs for users. Finally, as electric vehicles, they contribute to reducing polluting emissions, reinforcing the company's commitment to sustainable and responsible urban mobility.
At ACS Group, we understand that the future of sustainable mobility depends not only on implementing new technologies, but also on doing so in a way that solves the real challenges faced by our cities and their inhabitants. With Skyports and Glydways, we are not only innovating in transportation solutions, but also leading the way towards a more efficient, accessible and environmentally friendly model. These initiatives reaffirm our commitment to lead the change towards a more sustainable world, demonstrating that innovation and social responsibility are fundamental pillars for building the future we want.
