The Australasian Legal Practice Management Association’s president, Andrew Barnes, claims that many law firms view technology as a threat instead of a solution. Although 97 percent of the association’s members have made some investment in technology, 73 percent believe it’s responsible for either a positive or negative change in their firm. The internet offers a platform for competitors to use non-conventional law firm structures to deliver quality at a lower price. This recent development is putting conventional law firms under pressure to reduce their fees and increase productivity. Technology doubtlessly delivers cost benefits and offers a faster solution.
According to Barnes, automating systems and moving manual tasks online is the answer to delivering services at a lower cost with increased responsiveness to the client. Technology makes it possible for firms to
compete with people not only in their own town, but across the country, and some of the providers that are crossing international borders.
Law firms that turn a blind eye to the realities of the commercial world are playing a dangerous game, warns Barnes.
The current law firm business model is in danger of extinction.

The first three dimensions starting at 12 o'clock and going clockwise are about speed. The next three are to do with internal maneuvering and the final one is a culmination of the other six.
