Promote battery recycling this World Environment Day

As the world comes together this World Environment Day, we are reminded that protecting the health and safety of our environment is an important problem affecting human wellbeing and economic development around the world.?

At Uganda Batteries Limited, we are playing our part by safely recycling lead-acid batteries and continuously educating the public about the safe handling and maintenance of batteries. Environmental sustainability is an integral part of our company mission and we understand the importance of reducing the environmental impact of our products.

The process of lead recycling

According to EUROBAT and Battery Council International (BCI), the lead-acid battery is the most recycled consumer product in the world. Recycling older batteries cut down on waste. Since up to 99 % of a lead-acid battery is recyclable, it also cuts down on the need to use new raw materials and components.?

Benefits of responsible lead recycling

1. Recycling batteries cuts down on contamination, which could hurt humans, animals, and the wider environment. Careful recycling is essential, beneficial & cost-effective in comparison to the cost of treatment & disposal.
2. Recycling batteries also avoid a number of potential environmental problems and hazards, including polluting streams, leaching heavy metals from landfills, and exposure to an acidic, strong lead.
3. The use of recycled lead in the production of new products is highly energy efficient. Recycled lead production takes only 35 to 40 percent of the energy necessary to mine and produce primary lead from ore.
4. Unlike most other materials, Lead can be re-melted and recycled indefinitely without the slightest diminution in quality. Good quality recycled lead does not compromise the quality of the battery and is used by most battery manufacturers in the world.
