The Promise of Web3 is... Promising.
We had a lot of good times in web2, I know I did. but like many good things, sometimes they take a turn. where web2 ended was with a select few having a lot of control and authority over your content (ie. do we really own the content shared here or on any other platforms?) And your data (the, data we generate and share every single moment we spend time online, on our phones, browsing our feeds, sharing videos from friends and brands, talking to Siri, Google and Alexa) — why should a select few have so much power and say? can we not all benefit? The short answer, yes.
In web3 where people and institutions are purposefully looking to not repeat the same mistakes made in web2. there were great moments, and perhaps we carry some of these forward and improve upon them. Or, we take the initial concept (ie. data ownership and content creation) and reimagine what this could and should look like. Create a scenario where the true owners of the data (that would be you and I) play a role in how it is collected, used, managed... and rewarded.
It's not about one group having control and authority over another group. We can make web3 more decentralized, build and create meaningful communities, true collaborative creation, more inclusivity (all people need to be present and represented) and an ultimate shift in authority and ownership by the few.

A lot of it, are things we tried IMO to accomplish in early web2... we just didn't quite get there in the end. Let's learn from past mistakes, what did and did not work in web2 and make web3 what we are all envisioning it can (and will) be. I am confident web3 will be better than its predecessor (web1 and web2.)
I've met so many talented and committed people throughout my career and many of them are part of web3 which makes me quite excited for what will become our future web... one that we are creating together — for people, by people.
