Power packed Panel Discussion at Indian School of Business I-Venture @ ISB on 6th March 2023
Led by the god himself, Prof. Bhagwan Chowdhry and ably joined by Mr. Pulkit Jain Mr. Beas Dev Ralhan Mr. Aakash Chaudhry Mr. Girish Shirigannavar, the promise, potential and progress in #edtech were laid thread bare in the riveting one hour discussion
The things that stood out for me:
Who is becoming a #teacher? The average teacher salary is less than a security guard in a MNC!!!!!
Teacher need to pay heed to #demotivation #learningexperiencedesign #individualization #studentcenteredlearning (than the current model of uniform scalability)
#teachers role is beyond (mere) teaching and they can enable #thinking #criticalthinking #imagination and decode #meaningoflife
#teaching is still not aspirational and how can good teachers and #gurus be made available in tier-2/tier-3 cities in #bharat #bhathinda
#edtechentrepreneurs can only solve what they can see!!!! There are lot of opportunities in online and offline modes that generate loads of #data (tone, interest levels, concentration modes and etc of students) and the same can used for problem solving
Deeper analysis of/across all dynamic variables (learnability, emotional well being and etc) rather than the current system of statically reporting select scores in a simplistic report card is much needed in the context of assessments
#teachers parse information (in an information overload context), build trust with students, augment the classroom engagement by means of #storytelling, curate the #knowledge and act as #counsellor in every sense in addition to paying attention to individual student's learning aptitude
#teacher #faculty will still play a pivotal role in knowledge cocreation and knowledge dissemination

#teaching is not downloading content. It is more of individualized attention and has more service elements associated
How #edtechstartups can help customize #teaching #learningenvironment (when faculty find it challenging to teach a class size of 40 )
#classroomtraining is not dead and offline education will never lose its relevance.
Right #educationforall is not monolithic. Disruption has to envelop pedagogy, assessment, teacher capacity building. Tech will only accelerate and enable teachers to become more effective and phygital will throw up interesting opportunities
#immersivelearning tech will drastically simplify science education (in areas like transistors and coding) and simulations will further democratize (scaling-up) and improves learning outcomes by means of #visualization
One should learn how to learn, with eye on future skills and degrees are just engines of learning
Worry about #educationexcellence and #scale will follow
One needs to be taught the virtues of #failuremanagement #concentration #compassion and #balancedthinking than the current focus on #content and #methods
More than the delivery modes (B2B or B2C), the principal point that warrants attention from #edupreneurs and #edtechplatforms is that of "REAL PROBLEM SOLVING" .
Solving the nasty problems related to #masscustomization #studentcentricity #teachersupport #teachertraining #studentteachermatchmaking is a goldmine and way-forward
After-Thought: Need to research and read more about Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle and its application in #learningdesign
Imagineering Education ????
1 年Thanks for summarizing the discussion M.N.V.V.K. Chaitanya. As Roger Schank once said, "Learning occurs when someone wants to learn, not when someone wants to teach." In India, scaling high-quality teaching is a challenge due to our large population. However, I believe that by empowering students to become lifelong learners and teaching them how to learn, what to learn, how to evaluate their progress, teach others to learn, and apply their knowledge, we can scale highly effective learning outcomes. This approach can help create a more conducive learning environment in India.
