Prominence Powerhouse: Lindsay Dixon

Prominence Powerhouse: Lindsay Dixon

Meet our September Prominence Powerhouse, Lindsay Dixon! As the Director of Commercial Sales, she leads a talented team in insuring employer groups across Nevada with recent expansion to North Texas. Lindsay's career has been defined by her relentless pursuit of excellence and advancement in the healthcare field. From her early start at 17 with PacifiCare and then on through the years to her role at Prominence Health, her journey is an example of perseverance and achievement. Read on to learn more about Lindsay.

What inspired you to pursue a career in healthcare?

My healthcare career began 30 years ago at age 17, while I was studying accounting at the University of Oregon. Working for a temporary agency, I was assigned to PacifiCare’s office in Eugene, OR. When I walked in, I encountered a stressed staff member struggling with phone calls and a busy reception area. Despite my inexperience, I stepped in to help and quickly began handling calls, even though I didn’t fully understand health insurance at the time.

Unbeknownst to me, the man was Stephen Lynch, the GM/President of PacifiCare of Oregon. Two months later, he recommended me for a sales associate role. This opportunity marked the start of my health insurance career and the end of my accounting aspirations. Over the years, I transitioned from PacifiCare to Health Net and eventually relocated to Las Vegas in 2006.???

Why Prominence Health?

I was drawn to Prominence Health by the opportunity to tackle challenges, remain nimble, and make a meaningful impact. After moving to Las Vegas in 2006, I spent 13 years at Anthem BCBS in various roles within the Commercial Sales Department.?As time went on, I found it increasingly difficult to stay with Anthem for various reasons, including a feeling that the focus was solely on wins, not on the people behind them. At Prominence, the focus is different—it’s on the people, the promise, and the potential to make a real difference, both for our team and those we serve.

Briefly describe your role at Prominence Health.

As the Director of Commercial Sales, my job is to do whatever it takes to get the job done—GROW and SELL, and everything else will follow.

My team and I are responsible for insuring large and small employer groups, across Nevada, under fully insured and self-funded arrangements. We’re also excited about the potential growth opportunities in Texas and beyond.

?

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

I love working with my amazing team. Many days are challenging, and I couldn't do it without them. There are days filled with laughter, frustration, and moments when we feel like giving up. However, the most rewarding part is witnessing our collective achievements and seeing how Prominence has evolved over the past five years of my journey.

What's something we'd be surprised to learn about you?

I was a dancer and a pageant contestant—most recently, I was crowned Mrs. Nevada. I’m also planning to get a bulldog someday, which nods to the inside joke with my team who affectionately call me the "little bulldog."?

?

What is your proudest accomplishment so far?

My proudest personal accomplishment is being a parent and grandparent and seeing my family grow and thrive in this complex world. Living in Las Vegas presents its own set of challenges, but I am proud that my children have found success and my grandchildren are flourishing.?

?

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Slow down! I sometimes feel like I grew up too quickly—working two jobs at 12, officially employed at 17, married by 21, and a grandparent in my late 40s. Meanwhile, some of my best friends are starting careers and having their first child in their 40s. My drive and determination were strong, but in my eagerness, I missed out on simply being a kid, making mistakes, and enjoying life. Life is short, as I’ve learned from losing both of my parents in recent years. If I could go back, I’d tell my younger self to take the time to savor life and "smell the roses."

Thank you for all you do for our team and members, Lindsay!
