During the last weeks, we have shed light on three of our Delivery Models within AFRYs business area Customized Solutions; Product Lifecycle Management, Production Center and Managed Agile teams along with colleagues currently working in each domain. This week, we will dive into our fourth and last delivery model Projects where we aim to create highly effective project management.?

What does the Projects Delivery Model entail??

AFRY delivers product development projects and takes on full responsibility throughout the entire project lifecycle, from definition of requirements to prototyping, verification and industrialization. The Projects delivery model is suitable when a deliverable can be clearly defined, for example through existing system, product documentation or managing a limited feasibility or exploratory study.?

The project resources are assembled to solve tasks within the boundaries of a time plan and the project team usually consist of several individuals that contribute with their respectively professional competence on a part time basis as well as full time basis. For small projects the sourcing and governance process needs to be effective and slim to motivate the investment to generate the expected results.?

Best practice project governance involves ensuring that the project is directed, controlled, and coordinated effectively. It aims to maximize the project's success by ensuring alignment with strategic goals, managing risks, protecting intellectual property, ensuring quality, and fostering a strong collaborative relationship between the client organization and AFRY. Early collaboration between all parties is important to clearly understand and define the wanted project outcome and benefits.?

Our capacity ranges from complete mechanical projects daily including simulations and calculations to electronic- and software projects designed to run on the latest CPUs and fulfill the latest cyber security requirements. We are experienced in handling military export restricted material and certifying the latest connectivity ECUs and IoT-devices against any country specific regulations. Our developed products have a long-proven track record of flight hours behind them As some of the products we develop requires AS9100D certification (aviation, space, defence QMS). ??

What do you do in your role at Projects??

I work as a Project Manager within our Projects delivery model, where we handle end-to-end project engagements for our clients. The projects come in various forms and durations, ranging from shorter 1–3 months assignments to longer project commitments spanning over 2 years.??

My journey in AFRY and Customized Solutions began in 2019 when I first worked as a Mechanical Design Engineer, and I eventually transitioned into a role as a Quality Assurance (QA) professional. As a QA, I played a pivotal role in supporting project leaders throughout the project lifecycle. My responsibilities encompassed ensuring adherence to guidelines, documentation requirements, and maintaining traceability for every decision made within the projects. Following my role as a QA professional, I transitioned into the role as Project Manager (PM). In this role, my responsibility is to plan, coordinate, and ensure the successful delivery of our projects in accordance with our clients requirements. This multifaceted role encompasses financial oversight, extensive communication with our delivery teams, performance monitoring, and the implementation of necessary actions to ensure delivery on time. One of my key responsibilities is also to ensure the team's efficiency and foster a collaborative working environment where open communication is encouraged. Additionally, I also work with a tool known as "lessons learned," which is an integral part of all our processes. This tool enables us to systematically analyze each project, identifying both strengths and areas for improvement. This ongoing process of evaluation empowers us to continually enhance our working methodologies.?

Recognizing our achievements and expressing gratitude for our excellent work is a significant aspect of our team culture. We often celebrate project completions with a cake and hurrahs! An example of was when we went to our client’s office and treated them to some cake after successfully delivering a project for them. Celebrating the win together!?

What kind of projects have you worked with???

I have been project leader for a broad range of projects. From developing a steering system for trucks to designing transportation solutions for the food industry. I've also been involved in a project developing test rigs and equipment and have provided follow-up support for previous projects. What makes our projects even more enriching is our active collaboration with various other business areas within AFRY. We've engaged in cross-collaboration initiatives, including concept generation with Experience Studios and projects with the Embedded Automotive business area, as well as Specialized Technical Services area.????

What is the most important asset to have as a project leader??

In my perspective, effective communication stands out as the cornerstone of successful project leadership. A project leader communicates a lot with both the client and the team, ensuring the alignment of our processes with the client's specific requirements and work methods while meeting their diverse expectations. Communication plays a pivotal role in this equation. Additionally, a valuable attribute for a project leader is the ability to maintain a holistic view, not getting overly entangled in the technical details. It's about fostering a broader perspective while steering the projects. Being transparent and encouraging is also important to instill motivation within your team.???
