#projectlogistics #projectcargo A little bit of planning please
Some old concepts which always seem to be flaring up needing constant careful attention,
Understanding a capital project customer’s needs is a critical component of project logistics.?
In critical review, here are some things as stakeholders and those responsible for purchasing mobilization and transportation services which need urgently to be considered every time without fail;
Front-end design inclusion of a project-specialized freight forwarder who has the ability to review mobilization restrictions very early on to avoid front-end engineering design cost over runs and unnecessary spend.?Not every freight forwarder has specialized staff to handle and trouble-shoot out-of-gauge equipment and complex moves – be cautious in your vetting and ask targeted questions to determine your partners strength.
End to end mobilization of capital equipment – from supplier site to origin port with qualified and certified specialized equipment companies – few to choose from??Who is your 3PL partnering with and what are their capabilities and experience? After all, both origin and destination management services will be required.
Lift and port considerations with all factors considered when it comes to rigging configuration, cranes, staffing, surveyors, attendance for over sized equipment and modules? All factors considered before engineering design & lifting stresses? Equipment booked advance to lift and ship??
Destination considerations similar to the above in place with limited information? Is an end-to-end solutions developed early enough?
Route considerations to origin port and to destination pad site with multiple contingency plans – how many do we consider??Does every road lead to the site, of course not but sometimes these discussions need to be had.
Risk considerations due to distance, seasonal weather, political instability, changing costs & bidding parameters, permitting timelines, scope change, planning changes – impossible to predict?
Customer understanding of logistics, supply chain, transportation and mobilization – is this depth of knowledge present??Do stakeholder and EPC suppliers understand their roles????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
