Project Update: Industry Apartments
Elk Air Conditioning & Heating
HVAC contractor based in North Huntingdon, PA. "Quality and comfort you can depend on."
I am happy to share with you the progress that our team at Elk Air Conditioning has made on the Industry apartments, which is set to open soon in the heart of Shadyside in Pittsburgh, PA. Our team has been hard at work to bring this project to life, and we are proud to announce that the apartments look fantastic.
During my last visit to the job site in late March, the building was still in its preliminary stages, with no real doors or windows installed yet. But now, the exterior of the building has new windows and doors, and the sidewalks and walkways are still undergoing construction.
I entered the building through a door that led to the parking garage which is still under construction. Once again, I was given a tour by Jeff who is the project manager for this job site. We could not visit the lobby of the building because they were in the process of laying the flooring, so we hopped on the elevator and went up to the sixth floor. As soon as the elevator doors opened up to the sixth floor, I could instantly see that considerable progress had been made since my last visit.
?Last time I visited the apartment walls were still being drywalled, and temporary lights were strung up. Now the hallways have been completely transformed. The carpet was down and protected with sheets of plastic, and the drywall had a fresh coat of paint. The doors were hung and painted. When we entered one of the apartments, the flooring was now installed, the walls were painted, cabinetry had been hung, and appliances were in place.
Jeff showed me where the hot water tanks and fan coils were now installed in the closets. Brand new Eco bee smart thermostats were mounted on the walls, and the holes that our team had cut in the walls were now covered with registers. The apartment looked nearly finished, with just some minor final touches and clean up needed.

After we toured a few of the apartments Jeff and I went to the top floor and climbed a ladder to the roof to check on the condensing units and the progress that our Service department has made starting up the units.
Our commercial team is still hard at work on the shaft that goes from the roof down to the parking garage below, which will pull exhaust from the garage out of the building. They are also working on the line sets for the HVAC systems, air balancing, and piping condensate lines.
After touring the building, Jeff and I attended the weekly subcontractor coordination meeting, where all the trades come together and give their weekly progress reports. The contractors are hoping to have all large equipment, like lifts, out of the building by next week and are starting to do final walk-throughs and inspections by quad. Safety was once again a priority talking point at the meeting, and we are working together to hopefully be able to get tenants to start moving in by the beginning of June.
We are proud of the progress that we have made on the Industry apartments, and we look forward to seeing the finished product.
