Project Night Night
As a leader at InterContinental Mark Hopkins, InterContinental San Francisco and Holiday Inn Civic Center, you no doubt understand the pressing need for reduction in trauma and advances the emotional and cognitive well-being of the children in San Francisco. At InterContinental Hotels in San Francisco we strive to participate with a minimum of 26 Community Services from donating, coats, jackets to One Warm Coat, toiletries for Episcopal Community Church, Adopt-A-Room, Recycle for Change, SPCA for puppies and senior dogs, Earth Day at Ocean Beach, YWCA for for food distribution, reading glasses, back pack backs for children in elementary, diapers, wipes and the list goes on.
As a single father for many years raising my kids alone it was extremely challenging and made a lot of sacrifices and put my kids in front of my own personal requirements because of my support system, today, I look back and acknowledge my parents, partner, friends, neighbors who supported my endeavor which leads me to my personal quest of assisting my community most especially young kids. Today's kids live with many big issues that provoke fear and anxiety, depending on their circumstances.
Our efforts to help homeless children locally and nationally can’t take effect unless we have the support of everyone in our community, friends, business partners and associates.
What is Project Night Night? Founded in 2005, Project Night Night (PNN) is an award winning Bay Area-based nonprofit organization that equips children ages 0-12 living in homeless and low-income situations with the essentials they need to be ready to learn, to feel less stressed, and to be reminded of their value. While meeting the immediate needs of disadvantaged children, Project Night Night also sets a foundation for lasting change by providing meaningful, hands-on volunteer opportunities to hundreds of individuals and organizations each year.
That’s where you come in!
I’m writing to ask you to donate a new blanket (the ideal size is 50″ x 60″ or smaller), new/like-new children’ book, and new stuffed animals to complete Night Night Packages. All donated items should be top quality (“good enough to give as a gift”). Please remember, the children whom we serve rarely, if ever, receive new items. Our goal is for them to feel special and loved. New product is the best way to ensure success and by donating, you will be able to make a difference. My goal is to provide a minimum of 25 totes before August 2017. Would you consider helping me and reaching my goal?
What's a Night Night Package? Each Night Night Package contains a blanket, a book and a stuffed animal, all in a special tote bag. Each bag is designed to be age appropriate, up to pre-teen boys and girls. Night Night Packages are tailor-made to give homeless and undeserved children familiar objects of comfort to reduce stress and to strengthen the trust bond between the caregiver (the shelter) and the recipient (the child). In addition, Project Night Night places 35,000 new books into the hands of children every year. Children’s book distribution programs such as Project Night Night's were created to provide greater access to high-quality, age-appropriate reading materials for children from low-income homes as one effort to address the achievement gap. Project Night Night strives to give children something they can call their own, something that can give them that little bit of comfort, and confidence, to deal with what's in front of them.
Project Night Night donates over 25,000 Night Night Packages each year to homeless children 12 and under who need our childhood essentials to have a concrete and predictable source of security and an increased exposure to high-quality literacy materials during their time of upheaval. Every child who receives one of our Night Night Packages leaves the shelter owning a book which encourages reading and family bonding, a security blanket which can be cuddled, and a stuffed animal which can become a cherished friend. We have one objective – to deliver our Night Night Packages to every homeless child in the country who needs one.
Project Night Night is a tax exempt charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code. They work with over 10,000 volunteers each year, and are the leading provider of nighttime comforts for homeless children.
