Whenever we watch team sports like cricket, football, basketball, etc, we celebrate or we get disappointed when our favored team wins or loses. But we never try to figure out the major reasons behind their success or failure.?

A team with better planning, approach, execution, and management will always win. No matter how skilled athletes they have, if the management is wrong everything will go in vain.?

This theory applies everywhere. Whether it’s a war, your household, office/organization, or even in your projects.?So while we are at it, let’s discuss the basic idea of project management, why is it important, and how you can apply it to your projects.

What is project management?

Project management can be defined as planning, organizing, and executing a particular task, event, duty, or activity by using a set of resources, skills, tools, and efforts. In other words, project management is like a cooking recipe but the overall taste and appearance of the food item depends on what quality of ingredients you use to make it.

Why is it done?

Project management is performed to work effectively, where we can reduce the overlapping of work, save our resources, decide our budget, and most importantly try to meet someone’s expectations.

Whenever we encounter a new event, we plan for its execution thinking about different aspects like who is suitable, who will be the leader, what the deadline will be, etc.?

Planning not only helps you calculate the possible hurdles and barriers that may or may not occur in completing your project, but it also helps you to cast the pertinent skill, tools, and resources to perform the job. In other words, it helps you decide the “whats” and “hows” of getting things done.

Here are certain steps you can take for planning your next project:?

  1. Establish clear goals and record them in your project plan by identifying the stakeholders and their needs.
  2. As part of your project deliverables, you need to create a schedule as well as a list of tasks to be performed for each deliverable as well as the resources needed and the amount of time allotted for each task.
  3. Identify as many risks as possible that may affect your project and be ready for them because risk management is also vital and should not be overlooked.

In order to ensure that your project is a success, it is crucial to take some time out to plan it. Creating roadmaps for your project can be an extra effort but ultimately it will provide you the golden ticket to excellence & efficiency.
