What our readers think...

BB reviewed Project Management: It's All Bollocks!: The Complete Exposure of the World of, and the Value of Project Management

It's All Bollocks is not like any other book on project management I've read. Gone are the detailed discussions about which is the best methodology to use or descriptions about what a Gantt chart is. This is all replaced by a conversation between two experienced project managers about practical ideas "discovered" through lengthy experience. It doesn't replace a detailed treatise about techniques and methodologies but is a different way of looking at the profession. Well worth a read by anybody thinking of becoming a Project Manager or is already one.

A refreshing, quick read and shakedown of project management 29 January 2020

I loved this book! If you want volumes of dry, boring text about project management, this probably isn’t the book for you and that’s fine! (I don’t think the authors intended that!)

I found this book engaging, witty, humorous and most importantly helpful and supportive. It’s a quick read with direct pointers to help manage projects. It gives a confidence boost where needed and helps you question practices that are probably not helpful to you in the long run. A refreshing read, which I enjoyed. I’d recommend.

Forthright and frank. Just finished it and was entertained. It leaves one thinking of “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, they just come right out and say what they see, very refreshing. To quote Peter it was the “dog’s bollocks”.

Best book on the subject I've read in ages! Thanks for writing this. It resonated in so many ways and also brought up some things I question. Whether you've been around for a while and want to feel like 'it's not you' or new and wanting tips this book works. and best yet, it's written in a style that provided me with several laugh out loud moments. We needed this; we don't laugh enough. Not sure of that what was intended but it worked for me.

But for balance, and proving you can’t please all the people all the time …

Big disappointment It's got a catchy title, but unfortunately the content is very weak. My guess is that two friends got together for a weekend retreat with a few bottles of wine and just rushed out a few random thoughts in any old order just to get this book written. It has no academic rigour, no meaningful content, no structure and nothing for me to recommend. It's a shame because i had been really looking forward to reading this and it's rare for me to trash a book so badly - but I'm giving my opinion which is what this site is about. My personal view is don't waste your money!

The Book

Welcome to Project Management: It’s All Bollocks! where two people who vaguely know each other and barely like each other will pick over the sadly inadequate body of knowledge that is project management today, and generally challenge just about everything, eliminating that which you don't need to bother to learn about, or should already know, leaving you only with the parts that will give you the results you want. This book is a shakedown of project management, the profession, the myths it creates and promotes, its great ideas and ambitions and a few ropey bits that we’re just not convinced about.

The project management profession continues to grow and mature, but is at risk of excluding those who don’t fit the mould. There is a mystique out there that only certificated project managers can be project managers. This is nonsense. The project management skill set is accessible to anyone, and how you choose to access it and put it to use should remain the decision of the individual. There shouldn’t be a right or wrong choice. This book is targeted at those ‘projects as usual project managers’ who will drive most of the change inside organisations tomorrow and beyond, and who really need help to do that.

The authors offer up a selection of seven cracking ideas, that when applied to a project environment will ultimately result in you being a good manager of projects in this modern world of business complexity.
