Project Management: an Introduction for Students

Project management is an exciting and rewarding career path that has continued to gain traction as a profession worldwide over the past several years. In order to promote this profession amongst a new workforce, PMI Southern Alberta Chapter is excited to hold the first ever professional awareness session on Project Management as a career, tailored for high school students entering the work force. This session is designed to educate and inform the student audience on project management, how it is applied, and the opportunities available to explore as a career in an interactive learning environment.  

Project management skills are sought after amongst business leaders, and are found to be highly transferrable in many different applications. This is an opportunity to gain an insight into those skills and how they are used by professionals everywhere.

This opportunity is open to everyone (both members and non-members of the PMI-Southern Alberta Region). Please join us for an exciting few hours with your kids (you can register up to two high school kids in a single registration). Event details as follows

Facilitators:

• Sean Widmark, PL (Eng.), RET, PMP

Sean is a Project Management Professional with PMI with over 18 years of Project experience, and almost 25 years of service in the Oil and Gas Industry in Alberta. Sean is registered with APEGA, ASET, and is currently working as a Business Process Lead for one of the largest energy producers in Canada.

• Lahiru Silva, Instructor, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT)

Lahiru Silva is an Instructor in Bachelor of Science Construction Project Management at SAIT and Executive Associate at Pathfinder, LLC. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, and Ph.D. from University of Calgary in Project Management. He has work experience that spans across two decades in education, management consultancy and construction projects.
