Project Management: A growing major but why don't internal Higher Ed Teams Utilize this?
Globally 1200 universities offer some sort of Project Management programs at different levels and this number is continuing to grow. However, so rarely do I come across Universities that have a project management, let alone a project manager. Hiring a project manager would help schools meet their deadlines and manage bandwidth.?
According to a Forbes article the need for project managers is on the rise. 25 million new project managers will be needed in the coming years to assist in a number of different professions. I’ve yet to see higher education join this trend from a larger scale. Many marketing, comms, and IT teams I’ve worked with will implement a project management tool which can certainly help manage the process, however it doesn’t replace a project manager.?
In fact, while I write this I’m chatting with a Web Dev from a private university that just said “In higher ed, we don’t pay for project management tools”. She isn’t wrong! There are a number of teams that simply use excel spreadsheets to track their progress, but that certainly can't be beneficial for individual bandwidth and burnout. On more than one occasion I’ve chatted with someone that is wearing multiple hats for their team. This may not be what the job description they signed up for expressed, however they are committed to the work.?
Perhaps a project management tool can make the lives of your team a touch easier and prevent constant disruption. In this case, if your team is onboard, a project management tool could be the small investment one needs to turn around the morale, energy, and interest in the higher ed space.?
Optimizes higher ed enrollment strategies with marketing and communications.
11 个月The institutions I worked at did not have project managers. I believe his led to lack of accountability and work not getting done. Project managers and the role they play can really make a difference on outcomes. #highered #highereducationleadership ??
