Project "HAM"? aka HyperOne

Project "HAM" aka HyperOne

Since about 2005 all my major projects have typically had names. Projects Redeye, Runway, Merlion to name but a few. So I thought about it briefly and then the name came to me.  Project HAM.

No, it’s not named after a favourite cut of meat, nor because we will be going “Hard As…”. It’s name is sourced from the first initials of the names of my children.. My family have supported me in my insane projects and startups over the decades and at times been sheltered from the overt stresses in every one of them - where failure was a real option and at times almost seemed inevitable. Unknowingly their financial futures and even our home have been on the line. Ultimately these big projects are about the hard yards, the tough times, those dark moments where it all seems against you, yet somehow need to keep persisting. Every project has its “Shawshank Redemption” moment before you come out the other side.

This project won't be any different and calling it Project ‘HAM’ will also be the much needed fuel to the fire that needs to burn in those dark times.

But HyperOne/Project HAM is not just about my children's’ future, but all of our children’s future. We need a new national backbone for our future industries, for their future jobs, for our national security and to demonstrate that we, as Australian’s have the ability for self-determination and can do amazing things. Also as a boy who grew up in regional Australia, it’s important we really understand that the nation doesn’t prosper if the regions don’t prosper too. This is a big network, for a big country, filled with amazing, driven and talented people. Let’s show the way forward. As my dear friend John Bertrand would say “Go Australia”. #teamaustralia #goham #proojectham #hyperone

Thanks for bringing your family to that PPC-1 event, Bevan, I had young kids myself at the time and it was inspiring to see them all there

This project is going to smash the tyranny of distance for thousands of communities by delivering terabits not kilobits. Looking forward to all the access networks it enables. Onwards and upwards!
