This year, new categories were added to ASID’s national awards program to increase inclusivity and accessibility for designers, firms and projects. Open to ASID members and non-members alike, the awards allow the organization to maximize inclusiveness in recognizing design excellence.

Arkansas-based Shine Interior Design Studio , led by Natalie Biles , ASID and Stacey Breezeel , ASID LEED-AP received the FOCUS Wellness Award in the Small Firm category for their new construction Falstone Residence project in Little Rock.

The FOCUS Award recognition for the Falstone Residence is the first national-level honor for Shine Interior Design Studio. The project was previously recognized with two local awards from the South Central Chapter of ASID.

The FOCUS Awards, of which Shine Interior Design Studio is a recipient, spotlight stellar design projects that address different areas of global issues. Addressing either wellness, diversity, community or climate, projects were selected on their ability to provide a framework and call to action to advance design in their respective category.

From plan design to each material and furnishing placed in the home, material content and long-term effects on the indoor air quality and physical touch reactions were considered. The end result is an environment that is not only sustainable for the health of the occupant but connects the soul with family, friends, and beautiful surroundings. We are so honored to receive this recognition.

Working with Natalie and the Shine Design team has been life-changing. I have severe allergies and hypersensitivity to both natural processed materials and synthetic materials. In the last year, this has progressed to making daily life around traditional materials a risk to my health and well-being. This led us to Shine to champion the design of our house that integrated hypoallergenic materials from the ground-breaking of the project to the materials of our rugs, furnishings, and everything in between. They researched rugs, flooring, adhesives, and construction to maximize health and wellness and were innovative in the inclusion of hypoallergenic materials.?
