Before implementing the wastewater treatment plant project, having an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environment Management Plan (EMP) is mandatory because this type of project involves kilometres of trenching along roads (might be open cut+micro tunnelling), both access roads and main roads of the city. Sometimes involves a large amount of ground preparation and construction of access roads. Sometimes the proposed site is situated away from populated areas.
These activities would create many forms of environmental impacts.
So environment monitoring throughout the project is also required. Further, practical issues may arise. The conveyance of sewage in pipelines for long distances can give rise to a spectrum of environmental problems.
i.e., order problems, leaking pipelines and resulting public nuisance, surface and groundwater contamination.
However, the state-of-the-art technology used in the project can almost nullify those negative impacts.?
