Project: 5 ML Oliphantskop Reservoir – Langebaan
Construction of a new 5Ml potable water reservoir for the Saldanha Bay Municipality in Langebaan at Oliphantskop is well underway.? The reservoir receives water from the Withoogte regional water treatment plant operated by the West Coast District Municipality and supplies areas including Langebaan Country Estate, Mykonos, Laguna and Long Acres Estates. The new reservoir will provide much needed additional storage capacity for the fast-growing Langebaan area.
The reservoir is constructed using a conventional reinforced concrete design with dimensions of 39m diameter and a depth of 5.5m and is designed to work in conjunction with the existing 2Ml reservoir on the same site with matching top and bottom water levels.? The pipework also makes provision for a third reservoir with a capacity of 5Ml to be constructed on the site for future needs.? The project also includes a booster pump station for the high-level zone in the Long Acres Estate and pressure management of low lying areas in Laguna Estate. ?A new chlorination booster station is also part of the project.
The designer and main consulting engineers are Ingerop South Africa, assisted by Struxit on reinforced concrete structural design and CTP Consulting Engineers, MNE Oak and IX Engineers on mechanical and process engineering aspects. The main contractor is Ruwacon and the Mechanical sub-contractor is Hidrotech assisted by Maxal Projects. The construction commenced in November 2023 and is scheduled to be completed in November 2024.
