I’d start this article with a little confession.?

‘LinkedIn scares me.’?

This platform I once deeply loved and perceived differently from other social media platforms like Instagram now makes me cringe. Almost everyone is a subject matter expert with a great career. Everything looks good from the outside, and life seems perfect.?

Well, my life isn’t perfect. I am not a subject matter expert; I struggle with severe imposter syndrome. How do I show up in a space where almost everyone but me is different? Oh wait, I think I’m overthinking it.?

Enough of my confession. Let’s get to the purpose of this article.?

Over last summer break, I worked at a top technology company as a technical writer. It was my first work experience since I moved to the United States and my first experience in the role. Let’s say I wanted to test the waters, and oh! I had one of the best times learning.

Since it was a new experience, I battled with imposter syndrome more than normal. I remember how I questioned myself after work on some days (haha). I was lucky to have a great manager, buddy, and team members who held my hands throughout the period. In the end, I gained relevant skills and faced my fears regardless.?

The experience sparked a new interest in me, which I intend to fuel. If you know me, learning excites me. So, I am currently upskilling and enrolled in paid courses in technical writing, UX writing & content design. I have read (still reading) amazing books in these areas. I am improving my knowledge in these areas to help organizations that are passionate about their user experience.??

Back to the start of this article - although LinkedIn scares me, I am ready to face this fear. I believe when I share, it deepens my knowledge. I don't intend to build a brand or position myself as someone I'm not. ?
