Progress in these uncertain times

As we approach the end of another week when Fridays feel like Mondays and vice versa, I wanted to share a note I penned for my team about moving forward through uncertainty - and the opportunities that can be found during moments like these. I hope you all take some time this weekend to recharge.

It’s the end of the week and for me, it’s a time of reflection on our progress and how we are all doing. These are uncertain times for sure. I know we are all experiencing many different feelings and emotions, and many of us, want to go back to normal life but don’t see an end in sight.

Our goals for the year remain the same and the work that we’re all doing is important and impactful for the success of the company. In the short term, although conditions might not be perfect, focusing on what we need to deliver and helping each other to adapt and get through this, is a constructive way to find meaning. 

I also think that this is a good time to think about the opportunities that this moment creates. For example, to take a fresh look at how we want to work in the future, how customer behavior shifts can create new products, services, or ways of engaging with them. Although things will be different after this, one thing we can be sure of, is that we will be there for our customers and each other. And who better than us to help create the future?

For me, I am excited to know we play a critical role in enabling these changes for people and society. Also, this morning we reported our 1Q financial results. I want to thank all of you as the results we achieved together, both pre- and post-COVID-19, were strong and significant. And a great testament to YOUR work. Our first quarter was highlighted by strong earnings-per-share growth, increased cash flow and a further commitment to network investment. This shows the strength of our business and our ongoing commitment to delivering results.

I’m glad to have all of you right here with me as we do this together. Again, my deepest appreciation for all you contribute. Our team continues to shine during this difficult time, and for that I thank you.
