Progress Toward True and Lasting Change
This week’s conviction of the murder of George Floyd was a pivotal moment in the ongoing fight against racism and injustice in our country, but it is only a step toward what we hope will be true and lasting change. His death is but one example of many that is pushing our country to confront systemic racism and its damaging effects. It has been a year of growth but also a year of pain – which continues to this very day. I remain angry and sad, and my heart goes out to the family and friends who have lost loved ones and continue to be affected by discrimination, violence, and the pandemic.
Last year, we committed to listen, to speak out and to take action, and we remain resolute in that commitment. Every day, we strive to be an organization where Our Purpose and Our Values are more than words but true principles for the way we treat each other, helping to create an environment where associates feel welcomed, empowered, and supported.
We held listening sessions across the organization last summer, which helped pave the way for difficult conversations, ones that we needed to have. Our associates stepped forward to share their own experiences with racism, their hope for better, and their call for our organization to take action. And together, we have been learning how to be more empathetic, supportive, and aware.
Those conversations led to the development of our Framework for Action: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion plan, which marked the beginning of our own journey to further create a more equitable and inclusive environment – but there is still more we must do. It will take all of us to create true and lasting change in our workplace and communities.
While we continue to make progress, events like this trial can reopen many wounds. I ask that you be there for each other during this time. Check in on your teammates. Talk with your friends and family. Share what you are feeling and your ideas for how we can continue creating a more inclusive environment. Let’s continue working together to create a space where we can share diverse ideas and learn from one another.
We at the Kroger Family of Companies are committed today and every day to building a more equitable and inclusive workplace and community. I am deeply encouraged by our associates’ commitment. Whether it’s the members of our newly formed Diversity Equity & Inclusion Advisory Council and Influencer Group or Associate Resource Groups or those volunteering in local communities or simply being an ally and friend to a fellow co-worker who needs support, you are what makes this a great place to work and our communities better.
Standing Together,
Rodney

3 年Rodney McMullen I truly admire your omission of the felons name and put the focus on the victim with your words. Our media these days seems to embrace infamy. It is extremely alarming. I believe we are at a major crossroads in human history. We either will CHOOSE to be better. Or we do not. We choose anger. And anger leads to hate. And hate leads to suffering. #MasterYoda I have seen true darkness and I choose to be better. We HAVE to be better. #OurPeopleAreGREAT #WORLDPEACEorDieTryin #BePositive and #VoteKrez4Prez2024 #HakuNamaStayPositive

I believe a police was just injustly condemned, so, for the sake of fighting alleged racism a innocent man was convicted, and influencers try to impose a false narrative of injustice against blacks
