Progress The Renaissance Way!
Last Posts Episode:
Some time ago, I created a post about forming a game development team.
I was excited about forming a team and I even stated "Don't do it solo!" in the header title no less...
So, how has it been going? Actually, very well, and still largely doing it all solo!
Sounds Good:
I have a very close friend of mine and creative colleague Rob, assisting me with the development of the games soundtracks, we have created so many I have them all uploaded to soundcloud, which you can listen to below:
The Renaissance:
I have met with other people to assist in the creation of my game, however, with limited success.
This for me, is no bad deal... I have come to realise I am a bit of a renaissance man, and I am able to learn multiple skills with relative ease.
Before embarking on this idea I had never created 3D models or artwork, I had never "rigged" a 3D model for animating, I had never animated anything, or used game engine software, used texturing and 3D painting/shading, never knew about lighting a scene (like in films), had never known what compositions were all about, understood fundamentals of photography, the list goes on!
Possibly, most exciting for me, I had never made music or understood how to play any instruments. I have since made somewhere in the region of 40 game soundtrack, and within the last three months learned to play Ukulele, and jammed with a few guys making some crazy but delightful stuff.
I have always had an ever increasing artistic skillset and I will continue to grow that list. For now I am happy that the game's first playable level is on it's way to testing... As I am still doing all the work alone, it is still a little way off, but considering I'm not far behind my planned deadline (A plan that involved a team of about 3-4) of testing by my birthday (31st of March) I'm actually very happy indeed.
As you will have seen from the screenshot at the beginning of this post (and now again above), the game is looking beautiful. That's without the added compositional filters I'm hoping to add, like gentle glows ect, and there isn't a full lighting setup in there yet either. I hope it intrigues you as much as it excites me.
That big guy, he is a boss (it's a Boss fight scene), the smaller skellington soldiers are his minions, and popping out of the ground are ghosts. Like I say, a lot of work still to go, but all very, very exciting.
As always I will keep you updated, if you're following the progress.
Thank you for reading.
