"Progress is possible" at #NNN2023!
“What's been accomplished by countries and partners is a global success story, with 50 countries eliminating at least one neglected tropical disease (NTD)" - Thoko Elphick-Pooley shares a rallying call at #NNN2023 to convert success into sustaining financing to #BeatNTDs.
Let’s come together to support demand generation, to call for investments to NTDs, to facilitate countries to endorse the Kigali Declaration on NTDs and commit to funding, including at the Reaching The Last Mile Forum at COP28 later this year, hosted by Reaching the Last Mile and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation .
Victoria Sykes from Uniting to Combat Neglected Tropical Diseases shared, at the Rapid Fire session, how every Kigali Declaration endorsement is followed by a tangible commitment entered onto the Commitment Tracker ; the only financing tracker for NTDs, making it a key tool for accountability to drive further investments.
Rwanda was the first country in Africa to enter its domestic investments for NTDs into the Commitment Tracker.? Ladislas Nshimiyimana from the Government of Rwanda explained how the data was gathered, including what it took to get national stakeholders involved.
Youth Combating NTDs held the first youth-led panel session at #NNN2023 'Demand Generation: The Role of Youth in Creating a Movement to End NTDs' at the conference hotel, the Hyatt Regency in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania - the same place where Youth Combating NTDs was established in 2020. The event showcased young practitioners and their perspectives.
When campaigning for the mobilisation of resources for NTDs, demand generation is critical. In order to unlock financing, countries have to call for action and investment in NTDs. Read more here: https://unitingtocombatntds.org/en/neglected-tropical-diseases/resources/demand-generation/

1 年Progress is Possible is a strong and striking way for NTDs at #NNN2023. Progress is possible as different partners commit there resources to the elimination and eradication of these diseases and the countries embrace community ownership. This go beyond say for Africa because is an anchor to bring solution to so many challenges as these disease are not only health care matters alone, they cut across all the sustainable developmental goals (#sdg2030), ranging from no poverty #sdg1 to justice, peace and building strong institution #sdg16. Not leaving the partnership with the goals #sdg17. These diseases kept so many to be poor beyond that, it create a large stream of out-of-pocket spending on individuals health. About 400 million people in Africa, nearly 40% of NTDs burden in the world (Reference World Health Organization, Brazzaville 2022). It is easy to take a glimpse of the burden of poverty ravaging different countries due to these disease. Since many households are poor, they can not avoid normal meals per day, which defile zero hunger #sdg2 which cut across many communities in Africa. Not to start mentioning others, but I must quickly take a look into #WASH (water sanitation and hygiene) can not. Kindly continue on my page
