Progress on Climate Change

Progress on Climate Change

Climate change is one of the most consequential threats facing our society – today and for the generations that will follow us. Our success in addressing and reversing the trend of climate change requires the collective commitment of us all – at an individual and societal level, as well as across the private and public sectors – to take bold, decisive and concerted action.

It’s inspiring to see a groundswell of progress and action coming from all areas of our society – from the U.S. recently committing to rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement and the Administration’s priority focus on this issue, to the call by Larry Fink of BlackRock to transition to a net zero economy. Both in the U.S. and globally, we are also seeing a clear focus on innovation to eliminate GHGs and enable that clean energy future.

I am particularly encouraged by the renewed focus on public-private partnerships. Through better, closer collaboration between industry and government we can further maximize the impact of new technologies and innovations, while ensuring the benefits are more broadly shared by all. For example, transitioning toward a clean energy society that creates long-term, sustainable and good paying jobs while improving air quality; and, addressing hunger by reducing the significant amount of food loss across our national and global food supply chains.

As companies and business leaders, we must also look for more ways to extend the impact of our solutions across our own industry and businesses. At Carrier, that means establishing ambitious goals, such as reducing our customers’ carbon footprint by more than one gigaton (equivalent to the annual greenhouse gas emissions of Japan) and committing to carbon neutrality by 2030.

Carrier is ready to take on these challenges together. We will continue to seek ways to focus on innovation and technology that will drive change, as well as collaborating with key industry groups. We look forward to being part of the solution alongside industry and government as we drive the next phase of bold action and meaningful impact.

David, what we need is a plug and play geothermal retrofit to the hundreds of millions of existing splits, buy my patent, and start a real green revolution
