Programme Visits, Event Updates and Reports from Partners.

As we progress into the latter half of 2024, we are pleased to share some significant milestones and achievements that have defined this year for Five Talents. Below are some highlights to demonstrate our continued commitment to making a positive impact:

Co-CEO Rachel Lindley’s Visit to South Sudan

Co-CEO Rachel Lindley had the privilege of visiting programmes in South Sudan. Her participation in partner training sessions and her visits to some of?the newest Savings Groups were profoundly impactful. For those who missed it, we encourage you to read her reflections and her World Refugee Day feature in the Church Times.

Rt Hon Andrew Mitchell MP, Bright Blue, and Five Talents Panel

In May, the then Deputy Foreign Secretary and Minister for Development, Rt Hon Andrew Mitchell MP, provided insightful reflections on his fourteen years in international development during a dynamic panel discussion. The event concluded with a lively Q&A session. A detailed recap and the full video of the event are available here.

‘Canvas for a Cause’ Summer Drinks and Networking Event

This year's summer drinks, kindly hosted by A&O Shearman in partnership with Brandler Galleries, featured a silent auction of notable artworks by Tracey Emin and Banksy. The event was attended by over 80 guests and successfully raised over £2,500 for? programmes in central and eastern Africa. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants for their generosity.

Quarterly Reports from Partner Programmes

Our latest quarterly reports from partners reveal significant progress within the community-led programmes we support. In Burundi, new Literacy Groups that launched a year ago have supported 3,086 members. Remarkably, 94.28% of these members have passed their exams, earning accreditations in literacy and numeracy. Additionally, 76.37% of female members report sharing household activities with their spouses, indicating a substantial cultural shift within these communities. These results are both encouraging and inspiring, demonstrating the profound impact of Literacy & Savings Groups?in empowering women to bring about social and economic transformation in their communities.

Tour de Talents - a virtual South Sudan expedition to raise funds for Five Talents

This year, help us travel 3,000 collective miles along the borders of South Sudan, which is home to our newest partner programme.? Every mile each participant walks, runs, swims or cycles will be counted to the total, and will raise £3 for a grand total of £9,000?across the three days of the August Bank Holiday.

There is no fundraising required from you, simply sign up and log your miles.

If we reach our 3,000 mile goal our sponsors will top up the fundraising total with a bonus donation to reach £10,000! If you register for the event we will update you on progress throughout the weekend, and tell the story of Five Talents through the various waymarks we will be passing by on our journey.

Sign up now to log your miles, and please do share with your networks, friends and family to help us hit our target.

Stay tuned for more updates, and as usual, please share and subscribe.
