I had the honor of interviewing a certified travel advisor and agency owner, Scott Faust. Scott is a seasoned veteran in the travel industry with over 30 years of experience. He has made a name for himself as a travel expert and a passionate advocate for exploring the world, from small-budget adventures to luxury vacations.

Scott’s journey into the travel world began over three decades ago, right after planning his honeymoon. His fascination with travel was ignited when his travel agent inadvertently left her commission slip in the itinerary. That little slip sparked a curiosity in Scott, and shortly after, he earned his associate's degree in travel and tourism. Since then, he has built a thriving career, which includes frequent appearances on WBFF Fox45 in Baltimore and WMBF NBC in Myrtle Beach, as well as contributing to various travel trade publications.

Today, Scott is the proud owner of Destinations 24/7 Travel Services, where he works as a travel agent, blogger, and industry mentor. His experience has taken him to various corners of the globe, including Cuba, Egypt, Germany, and much of the Caribbean. Scott’s business is as much about cultivating connections as it is about creating unforgettable travel experiences, and his wealth of knowledge makes him a sought-after advisor for clients planning anything from weekend getaways to extensive multi-month trips.

When asked about his ideal client, Scott explained that he caters to a diverse range of travelers—from those looking for short cruises departing from Baltimore to Bermuda to clients planning two-week luxury escapes. His travel services suit all budgets, and his agency's team works tirelessly to craft personalized itineraries. While most of his clients are based in the US and Canada, Scott’s global connections enable him to create unique experiences for travelers abroad.

Scott shared an invaluable business tip: “Treat clients like they are family.” This approach is at the heart of his business, ensuring that every traveler feels cared for and has the best possible experience. He also advises always double-checking airline websites directly, even after finding deals on discount sites like Expedia—you might find an even better rate through the airline itself.

In terms of inspiration, Scott pointed to a book that made an impact on him during college: The IBM Way by Buck Rogers. It’s a classic business book that shaped his approach to building and maintaining client relationships, a cornerstone of his success in the travel industry.

On the subject of his own writing, Scott has recently started a travel blog where he shares his experiences, tips, and love for dogs. He emphasizes that travel can be both an exciting adventure and a deeply personal journey, often writing about the emotional side of exploration. For Scott, travel isn't just about seeing new places but about connecting with others and living life to the fullest.

As we wrapped up the interview, Scott left us with one final thought: “Travel as much as you can, because life is unpredictable. I spent three and a half months in the hospital wishing I could be outside exploring the world. So live each day to the fullest and keep traveling.”
